The Hitcher

saw it the other night on dvd. it was a very upsetting suspense/thriller/horror. So i suppose it succeeded for it's genre. It's about this young couple who are roadtripping to Spring Break and get stalked by a psycho killer hitchhiker.
Sounds like a typical scary movie but it was so much more. The gore was reminiscent of such fucked up movies as Saw and Hostel and it was actually unpredictable. Lots of twists.
The main chick is unbelievably hot, just absolute smoking. Oh man, the things I'd eat off of her ass...

Haha it was typical in that you really wanted the good guys to win and really hated the bad guys!

Is that the recent one?? I think it was a remake, but that sounds good from what you posted. What stopped it from being a four or even five bean movie?

it was an overnighter so yeah, recent.

look, it was probly a bit unlucky to not get a 4, but i dunno. Some of the scenes very much had "as if" qualities!

Plus the ending wasn't very satisfying

It was a while ago now, but I saw Hoodwinked a few weeks back and thought it was really cool. Not as good as I had hoped, but I had pretty high hopes. It was really good. Patrick Warburton does one of the voices and he is a hilarious guy. He did the live action Tick series and most of you would know him as Joe from Family Guy (the wheelchair guy). Funny man. Funy movie. 3.5-4 beans (can't remember enough to be more specific).

Okay so Superbad... I hadn't heard anything about the actual storyline until Jarryd played the trailer at work on Friday, and it sounded SHIT! Like some American Pie crap. But it turned out heaps better than that. I'll give it 3.75/5 beans.

In regard to Trav's thoughts of Seth being gay... I think he could actually be onto something. Like, the sleeping bag scene had obvious 'gayness', but they were drunk and drunk people say that shit. But Seth was getting pretty close too. And then at the mall the next day, when he was going down the escalator with Jules, her talking was faded out and the soppy music played while Seth looked back at Evan and Bec as they disappeared over the steps. And that could explain why Seth got so shitty about Evan leaving him (both at the party and at college the next year) AND why he was so jealous of Evan and that other kid when they were in home ec. at the start.

And yes even though Seth was so over-the-top obnoxious with all the sex talk at the start of the movie, that could have been a 'defense' so that people didn't know he was gay and make fun of him. And of course all the penis drawings....??

What do you think?? Trav you were on to it. Top work.

I agree with the 3.75 rating. The Seth = Gay bit will need to be discussed further I'm still undecided. However to add a point to the argument in favor of gay Seth:

I know your sitting next to me right now but for the benefit of those who are not I will discuss... I didnt think Seth was gay until the end with the escalator scene you refered to, how ever the entire movie i assumed Evan was gay. Several scenes made me think this such as the home eco class where Evan was having such a gay time with his partner and tying up his apron and making tiramisu, also when that girl was trying to have sex with him he just didnt look at all interested any other red blooded male would have nailed her... although Evan was prepaired with his condom and lube but that could have been to stick Seth in the anus?

In all a great movie, I give it 4.5 Beans definatly an interesting and slightly gay film, in a good way!

i hope you guys are kidding, but i get the feeling you're not...

neither of them were gay. all those gay references you are talking about were JOKES. i cant believe both of you intelligent boys think it was anything more. did it really strike you as the sort of movie with extra meanings that the audience has to pick up on??

i thought the movie was hilarious. it reminded me of American Pie but it was so much better than that. it just seemed so real. obviously not the fartetch situations they found themselves in but just the way they acted and stuff.
and the penises at the end just capped it off.
i can't wait to see it again.

Of course there was gay references in the film and they cant just be dismissed as a JOKE... Thank you for refering to Brendan and myself as intelligent, this is how we are able to notice the gay references and discuss them. Either or both of them are gay, i guess if there is a sequel we will be proved right.

oh man, that thing is so stupid, his reasoning was just stupid. saying basically that one of them is gay cos he hasnt 'actively been looking for a girlfriend'. just stupid, hes a shy fella who doesnt ask girls out, therefore hes gay. just ludicrous.

I just watched Blades of Glory, if you haven't seen it Jordy then I wouldn't bother, it is riddled with gay references, I'm pretty sure both the main characters are homos... Not that there is anything wrong with it, I live with a gay!

I think it was just Seth who was gay, not Evan. Like Jordan says, there's nothing gay about not wanting to take advantage of a drunk girl. But Jordy... come on! I know it's a comedy but a lot of movies have subtext and there were just too many things here to overlook it. What about the end bit going down the escalator?? Certainly not 'funny' in any way. It wasn't a joke, it was serious. Which I think should be the catalyst for viewers to re-examine the events of the film and draw their conclusions.

I'm not denying that a lot of these things (in particular the penis drawings) were played for laughs but when you take everything else into account I think it warrants a bit more thought.

Ha zoid at first I thought you were taking the piss but you seem to be serious? you really think there's an underlying 'seth's a homo' pretext in the movie?

OR, here's an idea.. how about they're best mates, and love each other as best mate's would? Seth was pissed at whatshisface because he thought they'd be best mates forever and when he found out evan was going to a different college/whatever it is he was sad and pissed off cos he was losing his mate.

and the escalator scene is showing them both, as best mates, moving on with their bitches together. sure it seemed a bit gay, but to me it was them moving on.

I honestly can't believe the accusations being thrown round here!
