Before I get into Cloverfield, let me just say that jarryd and I were discussing 40 Year Old Virgin last night and he confessed to me that his bean rating was higher than he actually felt it deserved, because he didn't want to deal with flac from Trav. What is the world coming to when our bean ratings are being swayed like that?!?! Outrageous.Anyway, onto Cloverfield. I'll make it all black so people who are still yet to see it don't read what happens............ Okay, SO.... it started off good, when they were at the party and stuff. I already thought the acting was pretty shitty but it was still going good. When the lights went out and the statues head came crashing down, that was awesome. But it all went quickly downhill when they were hiding in the shop and Rob just took it upon himself to venture out and suddenly become the hero of the movie. From there, there was just so much bad dialogue and unnatural behaviours (as in, people just wouldn't do that if it were anything other than a movie) that I just couldn't stay into it. I kept trying and it still had it's moments but it was quite average all up. And all the shitty techniques to make it look like it was filmed on a handycam... pffft!! I won't go into that shit but it was distracting to me as well. Oh, and IS IF a skyscraper would fall onto another skyscraper with such minimal damage. And AS IF the three passengers but neither pilot would survive a helicopter crash like that. I give it 2.5/5 beans.

It wasn't meant to be "Oh, as if a giant monster would come out of the sea, that wouldn't happen" it was more along the lines of "Oh, as if this character would behave in that way under that circumstance". Not even that, everything they did just seemed so scripted. Yes, I love zombie movies, but the whole thing is bad. Bad acting, bad effects, corny dialogue, stupid storyline - it's meant to be just as much a laugh as it is a gorefest. Cloverfield was dead serious the whole time except for the cameraman's lame comments, which in my opinion were there to make us feel for the guy when he got killed at the end. "Aww, not the comic relief good guy". There wasn't enough character to any of them to feel that. Why was Beth the only body they even saw in all their efforts to get to her? The whole place was abandoned except for her. And yeah it's nice of Rob to go back for her, but fuck - the smoke had barely begun clearing and he's already out the door and telling everyone else "Just stay there!" like he IS Bruce Willis. Anyway, I'm not going to change my opinion on it, and you won't either. It was a good story and had good potential with a good start.

I didnt think it was the best movie, sure there was alot of wierd things that happened in it and i would have prefered there to be a few actors that id heard of and would have like to know where this creature came from, why it was here and if there was any more. it sort of left you hanging and wanting more which was good but it only went for 80min so i kinda wanted to know if it was an alien, government experiment of just from the ocean. You didnt find out what happened to the girl in the first helicopter which was weird and you kinda knew how it ended in the first minute because that opening credits said that the tape was found in central park, so we assume that they either dropped the camera there or died there and dropping the camera wouldnt have been a good ending. My reasoning for giving it 4.5 was becuase the movie drew me in, it was like Jarryd said it was like i was there and living this event. I felt sorry for them when that chick exploded and yeah i know thats a commonly used technique with the ugly funny guy behind the camera, but i didnt think he was going to die, i just thought he was there because he was too ugly. Anyway, your right about the lack of bodies lying on the ground, not that i was looking for them and yes when i saw that building laying on the other building i did think "your fucking kidding" but still my reasoning for liking it was because it was a different kinda movie, it wasnt your every day block buster where its all special effects and action and then at the end of the day they kill the monster, that didnt happen.. there was twist and turns that i didnt see coming and sure some of them were stupid but others made for a great movie, and i didnt mind the camera work it was something unusual and really added to the film. Im not saying that every movie should be filmed this way but im glad someone has had the balls to do something different...Plus how exciting was the Star Trek XI preview, sure its going to be a flop because it isnt really made for the fans of the TV show and people how dont like Star Trek wont go see it, but still i'll be there opening day with my pop corn and jumbo cola just waiting to hear "Space, The Final Frontier....."

Ok my two cents on Cloverfield..So I have pretty mixed emotions about it, and agree at both sides of the discussion here..I totally agree with Zoid in the fact that (yes, obviously it's a movie) but it's pretty unbelievable.. In the way that the buidling was leaning against the other one with no structual damage, and how the chick was still alive almost falling out of the buidling, and once they retrieve the chick she's right as rain to run around n shit. And because how the camera seemed to be that ugly dude's priority - if that was me I'd be fuckin running as fast as I can, no way I'd turn back for no shitty camera. Another thing which annoyed me, was the whole 'Department of Defence' and classified stuff all over the tape, as if it were the only footage of the monster thing? Like it was on TV and all the networks were showing footage of it n shit. I dunno. on the OTHER hand, it was a great story. I'm glad it wasn't great acting cos then it would have seemed more like a movie and not some dude's surprise party. I really loved the bit with the statue of liberty's head came crashing down. Comes down to pros & cons for me really. As most things, there was good aspects and shit aspects of it. Cloverfield 3/5 beans -------------------- NuckleHead McSpazatron

So on teh radio this morning they had an audio clip of Jack Nicholson when he heard about Heath Ledger's death. The journo asked what he thought about it, and he replied "How did it happen?". "Drugs." "I told him so." Hahah, WHAT?? T-Bag said that Jack warned him not to take on the part because it's so demanding. But even if he DID tell him so... what a bizarre reaction. So the Joker killed Heath Ledger??? What a scandal! Read it here.

Haha, wow, that WAS very out on context then huh. Even knowing what he was referring to though, still not a very nice way to respond to his death. "I told him so".I thought Juno sounded pretty interesting, til I saw the trailer and it looked shithouse. But I've still heard good things so maybe I'll look into it at some point. I saw Sweeney Todd on Sunday night, and that was really good. At first, I was worried that the frequency of songs would drag it down, but it didn't. They were great songs and once I was used to hearing the script being sung, I got right into it. Great work, 4 beans. Then last night, I watched a movie I had seen YEARS (like, in the 90s) ago and remembered being really good. It was The Crush, and it was not as good as I remembered. It was still okay, but it was like watching a telemovie, not a film. 2.5 beans. And that new Batman thing blows, Joker one was heaps better.
