So you think the ones on *bay are not real? I looked at this guys sales history and he has sold quite a few of them.... If they look good I guess it doesn't matter... he's asking $39 for a set of 4, does this seem reasonable?

What do you think it would cost to have my own produced.... any idea?

I thought they were putting out some kind of repro of the old VOT speakers, you'd think you'd be able to get the stickers direct from them...

Any ideas?

Maybe a couple of pairs several years ago.

I posted here- the idea was not to sell them.

They were posted at a ridiculous price...it was done to give an image of "worth" to the fake Altec.

"See- we really are Altec...."

Don't count on Altec pro for anything- they no longer exist. Shut down a while ago, may still be inventory in the pipeline. Doubt ANY VOT's or stickers.

The Ebay seller may not be doing the "faking" or "alleged" I should say.

Does it matter if it's fake? A 30 year old sticker versus a new one isn't going to alter the sound.

no, probably doesn't matter as long as it looks like the original.... does $40 seem like a fair price for 4 stickers? Have you ever seen them anywhere else?

You could try printing your own with decal paper. The older ones were water transfer decals and they were pretty high quality as such things go. You will probably do as well with the colors as whoever is doing the reproductions on e-bay

$40 is fair, consider Marty's decal paper idea.

A quick search found the scan, posted by our own bfish BTW.

Ok, let me put on my nitpicky hat.... the ones on feepay according to the listing are 15" x 7.75" and according to the thread with the link to the image on this forum, they should be: 13.318" x 6.672"

Is that correct?

Decal paper may be the way to go, except I'll have to cut them from 11" x 17" paper, and I am not the super artistic type... can probably pull it off, but makes me nervous. Wonder what a print shop would charge to do it. Maybe I'll make a call.... or maybe I can find one on-line....

Any thoughts? Just picking people's brains....

THANKS!

Found a company that seems pretty reasonable, does this seem like the right product?:

http://www.discountdigitalprinting.com/client/digitalprint.aspx?catid=1&prodid=58&tempid=0&matid=12

If so, any idea if I should get Matte or Glossy lamination?

Thanks!!

I am just looking for a set of stickers for my speakers.... I have had these for probably 10 years or so. I bought them from a buddy who painted and restored them, but did not put labels on them.... I would like to finish them out and do it right. Do you think the decals from that link offering the matte finish would like like the originals? Also, I am sure I can find it by searching, but anyone have a measurement on an exact placement on the speakers for the stickers?

I did, he said:

"The originals used from 1945 thru the late 60's were water transfer but Altec switched to peel & stick in 1968. These are high quality exact reproductions of the peel & stick version. They are also the same size as the original water trasfer decals."

I am going to go ahead and buy from him, but I just want to make sure these are the correct stickers for my speakers before I pay $40 for them.

You have me concerned when you mention a white border.

THANKS!

Worked with B & R Sound here in Columbus Spring of 1971...

Brand new from the box A-7's used water transfer...I put them on myself.

100% sure, date April or May.

Info may be semi-correct, but at least wrong on date.

I would buy a pack of paper...10 sheets?

Take the pack to a print shop...typically $1 per cut.
One cut from each dimension gets the proper size...then run thru the bypass feeder one at a time... two cuts...

Alternative print the info then 4 cuts to trim to size. I prefer the other method..

Kinko's is often cooperative, may just take the paper and bfish's scan in on disk and have them do the whole thing..should be maybe a buck a copy plus $ to trim...might as well print the whole pack, you may screw up one, and when your friends see your new decals they may want a set...

Too bad you ain't in cowtown Ohio, I'd cut them for you. OTOH they could be mailed back and forth media mail if you get stuck.

what about what Bfish was saying about the border? Should I just make the image 15" x 7.75" and print or keep the image the same size and cut to 15" x 7.75" creating the white border?

I am still confused about the border as the ones on ebay do not look like they have a border....

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!!

Also, looks like the minimum amount you can get in the laser decal paper is 25 pieces. Would anyone else want some of these, just divide the cost evenly. Otherwise I'll just shelf 15 or 20 pieces of the decal paper I guess. You can get 10 sheets in the Inkjet paper, but that is inferior quality, correct?

As far as size I didn't measure a set of stickers I put on 37 years ago...I really don't remember about the border...I would chase down every VOTT picture I could find on the net and see what ones from around the same age as mine looked like.

If I recall we centered them front-to-rear about 2/3 of the way up from the bottom...on the sides of course...

You know these are original...looks like Altec placed them higher than we dis...I would use this as a guide for appearance and placement.

I have only seen speakers that looked like mine once on-line and of course I can't find that link right now.... here is a picture of them, please ignore the drywall dust all over them, it will be cleaned up once I finish my theater build. Also, they are probably the wrong color, but they look good. I know, why I am being so picky about the stickers, I just want them to be right if I am paying money for them. Anyone know what model exactly these are?

Also, in case you are curious, this is my equipment rack that is driving them, please excuse this mess as well... all part of the project... notice the amp on the bottom right still needs to be painted black. I hope this isn't blasphemy, painting them black....
