Dear AllThe Electronic Image presents 'Codec/x' specially commissioned and recent work by 30 artists and musicians, based in north west UK. It has been curated independently by artists Dave Griffiths and Nick Jordan, and aims to promote collaboration and experimentation in sound and visual art. CODEC/X features new digital films by 26 sonic investigators, artists and composers from north-west England. These short, diverse works present challenging and often humorous themes embedded to materials and processes - including animation, performance, text, noise, concept, narrative, found objects, tape and abstraction. CODEC/X unpacks a playful list of new proposals and encourages discourse about technology, materials and conventions in contemporary practice. The artists explore tensions between perfection and instability; the minutiae of spaces and moments; the inscription and abandonment of laws; creation of light and time; complexity of language and meaning, and the architecture in 'intelligent' machines. 65 mins in length. Free. 4th February 2004 7.45 PM Stoke Film Theatre, College Road, Stoke On Trent. My (very) short 'Robots Don't Exist' is showing at Exploding Cinema in London on the 13th, if anyone happens to be in the area at that time...----------- Exploding Cinema - next show on Friday 13th February (and NOT January 30th as was originally scheduled) Exploding Cinema, London's most notorious and longest running Underground Film club, returns in two weeks time for a night packed with low budget and underground gems, great decor, prizes and general fun. Delicately positioned to begin at the end of a day of bad luck and end at the beginning of one that promises oh-so-much much love, we gesture wildly to all that is bittersweet and meaningsful and show some very fine films along the way. NEXT EXPLODING CINEMA SHOW:
Friday 13th February The Hatcham Social Club Hall Entrance (on right hand side) 369 Queen's Road New Cross London SE14 DOORS 8pm. £4 entry Buses: 36, 171, 53 Tube: New Cross Gate Rail: New Cross Gate or Queens Road Peckham (7 mins from London Bridge) For full directions including maps go to: http://www.explodingcinema.org/nextshow.html
