No Ground Processes and The Music Rooom Present

An Evening Instrumental Rock music, Noisy Electronics and Fried Visuals

Mountain Men Anonymous (From Wales)
Epic 45 (From England)
HL/Fickle (From Stoke)

Etc/ visual experimentation.

Thursday 26th February 2004 8.30pm onwards The Talbot Hotel, Stoke On Trent, UK

Mountain Men Anonymous
www.mountainmenanonymous.com
May 5, 1993
In Grants Pass, Oregon, in early May, Michael Kennedy tried to shoot a beer can off Anthony Roberts's head with a bow and arrow in what Roberts later described as an initiation rite for "Mountain Men Anonymous." Kennedy missed, and the arrow went through Roberts's right eye, penetrated eight inches of brain, and came within a millimeter of severing major blood vessels that would have caused instant death. Roberts never lost consciousness, was later fitted with a glass eye, and suffered no diminution of brain function from that which he had before the accident occurred.
Source: The Oregonian

No Really Mountain Men Anonymous will penetrate your soul with a sound that compares to acts like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai, and Explosions in the Sky. Not heard of them well come to Stoke On Trent and witness a reinvention of rock music.

Epic 45
www.epic45.com
>From Stafford, The influences here range from the mellow ambience of bands such as Bark Psychosis & Labradford to the sonic experimentation of GYBE, Slint, & Hood, but blended together nicely into a sound all their own. Lots of Radio One airplay from Steve Lamacq & John Peel. Very very pretty & dreamy.

HL/Fickle
www.noground.co.uk/hl.html
Promoters take to the stage or artists start promoting hard to say with these 2. HL is currently experimenting with using live noise through mics and creating a soundtrack using the actual sound of the venue. Fickle is well taking cd glitches, delay, radio noise and ambience into a warmer field away from the more harsher reality’s of Merzbow and Yasunao Tone.

A Visual element will be provided by etc/ with other visuals by tbc artists.

Maybe I should say that we are having a night of pre-recorded music at the Retro bar Manchester on the 12th April. Its called TITTUP, which means to move friskily and bob up and down.
Hopefully there may be some of that.
We will be playing, ooh all sorts of stuff. If anyone is interested, I will put up a list of things when Im awake. Just thought I'd let you know.

Gorr, this is a rubbish plug. Sorry. Anyway, eeing as most of you are in Wales I can't see the missioning to MANCHESTER thing happening. Well, SURPRISE ME. [rain] [smarty] [rainbow] [rainbow]

Oh, Mr Centimental, long time since now, but I saw your artwork in that crazy golf exhibition. It were reet good! I have a nice picture of it somewhere which I will post up if I can.
The man who runs the gallery actually said to me that was his favourite artwork-and I think he was being genuine and not too showbiz- so there you go!
Have you got any more lined up? [party] [rainbow] [rainbow] [sleepy]

Hey,

Cool! Glad you liked, thanks!...
>I have a nice picture of it somewhere which I will post up if I can.
That'd be superb if you could, I didn't get many good pics of it myself...

>Have you got any more lined up?
Only vagueness;... I was supposed to be doing something for another exhib in the same place but they've had to postpone...

More cementimental gigs I hope in the not too distant future, but gotta get animation work out of the way 1st, then will have more time + money for noisiness!

aaaaahhhhhhh.
Honeysuckle... nature, light the touch paper, blooms bust out all over ...
spring showers step aside and let's summer sunshine take centre stage....
the pond bubbles with amphibian activity... lily tendrils strain to the
surface... fledglings take trepiditious pteradactyl steps toward flight... their
freedom ?
or do birds wish that they could turn car alarms off with remote devices and
cook micro meals... ?

come ponder this and other less philisophical conundra at the Talbot Hotel,
this friday night, may 14th....
the musicrooom is bloomin' proud to re-present:
FROG POCKET
awkward child of moon, stars, electronica, fiddle, guitar feedback and 'the

CHEVRON

please read on if you are still interested....
PLANS/PROPOSALS for may 31st end of may bank holiday monday half-day musical
musicrooom jamboree...
it all seems to be falling nicely into place, as if by accident.
I plan to change shape slightly during the summer months...
having a bit of a break…
thereby creating a small but significant vacuum in the musikwerld OF
sTOKE-UPON-tRENT.
to herald this event I propose to hoist a very special musical day on bank
hol monday 31st may at the Talbot Hotel....
during that day I hope that we can create a beautiful happening on both
floors of the Talbot Hotel....
As a fairly idiosyncratic farewell/au revoir {my summer love}
here is the plan
from 1pm in the warm but rainy bank holiday Monday afternoon we will enter
the talbot hotel, stoke and encounter chilled Djing and acoustic artists playing
in different locations throughout the building {seemingly random, though not
overlapping, and kinda scheduled} this will continue throughout the afternoon
featuring such acoustic lovelies as Andy Robbins, Steve Clarke, Ben
Reynolds/Andy Jarvis/Girls, Buried Coins, and possibly VASE… throughout the day there
will be sound installations and things by Dan Hopkins, and most probably Fickle,
and visual/art installations by Dan Robbins, and whoever else has a good
idea, and wishes to be involved.... hopefully there'll be projections from the
scrapbook... photography/video/film from the last two years of great live events
etc.... {I have the Zukanican vid from last oct etc}
At 5pm-ish we will adjourn for high tea, { pizza from over the road ?}
this time/interlude can be used for brief escape.... or just a chance to have
a break from me bending your ear about how the daily tide of spam and junk
mail is crushing my spirit....... blah blah blah
this time could also be used for distro's etc…
reconvening at
6.30ish for more musical goodness... some / all live bands playing upstairs
{not on stage, on floor a la LigBolt etc... hey, I'm not claiming originality,
just enthusiasm}
there are those of you that already know of these plans... and I have
confirmed with a few bands that I would like them to play on this date.... if these
plans come together there may be issues re the amount of door money the bands
can reasonably expect, but as ever I can only do my best to ensure
satisfaction, but will guarantee fairness....
so, anyone up for doing stuff...
particularly visual artistes,publicity,flyering,mythmaking etc
or if any labels fancy having a small info/distro thing going on at the venue
please drop a line quick sticks...
go on... add your name to those already destined to make a difference on the
day:

THE CHAP too much going on to encapsulate in a snappy slogan. All good mind.
THE WOW intricate hellfire in the round...
SCULPTRESS a beautiful unvanquishable sound storm
VASE English lo fi folk minstrelling like Drake had really experienced
loneliness
STARBASE109 Krafted future-retro-electro-pop pioneers
ANDY ROBBINS our acoustic explorer possibly exploring with the aid of a
recorder
STEVE CLARKE mercurial popinjay utilises musical bathos.
BEN REYNOLDS/ANDREW JARVIS balancing deftly on a JanschFahey instrumental
guitar tightrope
BURIED COINS just exquisite
DAN HOPKINS otherwise known as HL 'motorways not motorhead'
DAN ROBBINS 'let's see what's through the square window. Using spaces for art
in the most disorientating manner'
have already said 'yes'....
nice one.
john o
www.themusicroomstoke.tk
'are you mad ? we only have a month'
'there is no present like time.'

as you will know there are a few perfectly formed LIVE nights before then...
and don't worry.... during the summer you will be treated to
CELLAR CULTURE! courtesy of the musicroom, proper underground gigs ?

yeaaah... it's all happening in Stoke....

it'd be really good if you thought it important enough to tell other folk
about this, it'd be even nicer if you felt inclined to print it off and give it
to them...
shout 'no' if you want no more....

Dear All
I know it's short notice, but this saturday HL eg Dan Hopkins will be doing Live Visual Manipulation and also a live music set at the Talbot Hotel in Stoke On Trent.
HL is supporting several great acts from the USA. These are Lucky Dragons, y.a.c.h.t, and Bobby Birdman. and also from Stoke The Curse Of Charles Dexter Ward

The night is being arranged by John O and his Musicrooom. http://www.themusicroomstoke.tk/

info on Lucky dragons can be found at www.hawksandsparrows.org/press
y.a.c.h.t. is from portland oregon and info can be found at www.teamyacht.com/music
bobby birdman is from LA california and info can be found at www.statesrightsrecords.com/bobbybirdman

Check out there sites for many great mp3's Here's what the bands themselves say about their shows

'Live we dance and roll around and make a tremendous joyful noise. basically we play different sets each
night so depending on the feeling of the space and the people we meet it can be many different things...
generally some participatory singalongs and some touching and some hooting and hollering and trip-outs
and some messy drumming... yeah! i think there are videos on some of the sites...

The cut and paste digital derivative of musique concrete, melodic memory, splintery soft glitches, anxious dada, dirty indie, beautytronics. Lucky dragons is..
YACHT is music made by Jona Bechtolt. YACHT is a varied and multi-hued exploration of sound and rhythm that trips you deeply and puts you in "the zone."
From Filter magazine..
There is something going on here, and it isn't quite electronic and it isn't quite folk. Bobby Birdman (aka Rob Kieswetter, aka 'the indie rock Perry Como') has a voice as genuine as they come. His precious croon never stretches out of range, but isn't dull or montone. While his previous work relied on acoustic guitars and barroom piano to create a somber lo-fi landscape, this EP shows a leap forward in the studio. Imagine the voice David Bowie, only American and softer, backed by odd beats and click.

HL also has a slightly upgraded website with a slightly updated address www.noground.co.uk/landcrash There is some more music on there and soon will be examples of my film work.
New Pictures of my gigs are here
http://www.peripheralanomaly.co.uk/Page_Photos_HL_Stk_260204.htm
Pics of my video work here
http://www.peripheralanomaly.co.uk/Page_Photos_DragonRapide_Stk_310504.htm
http://www.peripheralanomaly.co.uk/Page_Photos_Pascal_Stk_310504.htm#
http://www.peripheralanomaly.co.uk/Page_Photos_Sculptress_Stk060404.htm
http://www.peripheralanomaly.co.uk/Page_Photos_Hrvatski_Stk_211003.htm
http://www.peripheralanomaly.co.uk/Page_Photos_Galchen_Stk_090503.htm

HL is also looking for gigs/concerts/art exhibitions if your promoting a night or show etc and need some low key ambience/non linear dub with the sound of stuttering birds and bees, Then HL is your man. Also available for live video experiments, and installations.

Please email back if interested!

Thanks for reading this far and see you all soon.

Currently available again is the 3' cdr 'A449 (Work In Progress)' After going through the first run of 50. There is due to a stock malfunction alot more copies of this are available.

A Newbie release for me is a release called 'Moving' under the name Hurra caine Landcrash. This is a hour long album type record from me. Collecting about 2 years of work. This release is called ngr-06 and is available from me now. Just email dan@noground.co.uk

Also on the noground-r label is another 3' this time from PFM, or Poor Father Material. This is currently in the last stages of production, again email me for copies at the moment.

Of course I am willing to trade or if anyone wants to review anything they can. I will send copies.

A whole load more is in the pipe line.

Best

yay! - after months of trying - this bloody forum has finally let me in.

in the words of Dr. Nick Riviera - "Hi everybody!" hope you're all well and happy and productive.

dan - congrats on the airplay. there are lots of groovy shows on resonance. my 'Book of Dreams' album was listed as one of '10 things to dig before you die!' on one of their shows recently which was cool.
