If you're connected to a hotspot or domain network, contact the network administrator. Otherwise: 1. Unplug or turn off the device. 2. After all the lights on the device are off, wait at least 10 seconds. 3. Turn the device back on or plug it back into the power outlet. To restart a router or access point that has a built-in battery, press and quickly release the Reset button.

[h=Can I have more than one operating system on my computer (multiboot)?]1[/h]__elbasuer__
If your computer's hard disk has adequate free disk space, you can install more than one operating system, and then choose which one to use when you start your computer. This is called a multiboot or dual-boot configuration, and it requires partitions on your hard disk. For more information, see Can I repartition my hard disk?
    newreplyphp?dopostreply&ampt176207A multiboot disk configuration

[h=Why have more than one operating system?]2[/h]You might decide to create a multiboot configuration if you have programs or devices that only work with older versions of Windows. When you want to use one of those programs or devices, restart your computer and then choose the operating system that you want to use. Multibooting can also be useful for testing programs or devices that work on Windows Vista for compatibility with Windows 7.

[h=How does a multiboot configuration differ from an upgrade?]2[/h]Upgrading replaces your old Windows operating system with a newer version. Setting up a multiboot system installs another operating system alongside your current operating system so that you can use either operating system.

[h=Drawbacks of multibooting]2[/h]Multibooting requires separate partitions on your computer's hard disk for each operating system. If you're running one operating system, you can't run a program installed on another operating system. You'll need to install programs on each operating system that you want to use them in. You must restart your computer each time you want to switch to a different operating system.
You also need to install the oldest operating system first, which can be frustrating if you want to add an earlier operating system (for example, you're currently running Windows 7, but you want to add Windows Vista or Windows XP).
    [h=Warning]3[/h]
    • Installing an earlier version of Windows after a more recent version is already installed can render your system inoperable. This can happen because earlier versions of Windows do not recognize the startup files used in more recent versions of Windows and can overwrite them. For more information, see Install more than one operating system (multiboot).

[h=Using Scsi attached storage (uaspstor.sys) is causing BSOD & system hangs.]1[/h]After upgrading to windows10 from windows 7 my Lacie d2 Quadra external harddisk is not functionning properly.
    The drive is properly recognized.
    chkdsk doesn't report any errors.
As soon as you start writing/reading from it UASPSTOR reset warnings (Event 129) and IO operation retries (Event 153)
start appearing in de system log destabilizing the complete system.
I upgraded the bios and other drivers => No luck.
I only experience the problem with usb3.0 capable drives not with usb2.0 drives on the same port.
(My system is a Dell T7400 workstation which doesn't have usb3.0 ports. So the drives are attached to usb2.0 ports.)
So my guess is scsi attached storage driver is not functioning properly on my system (uaspstor.sys) and would like to
like to revert to usbstor.sys used in windows7 and still used by default in windows10 if it detects a usb2.0 drive.
Is there a way to get windows to chose the older usb 2.0 driver over the newer one? I am quite sure that will resolve the
    problem i have.

Thx for looking in to this.
I have been trying a few things out meanwhile.
Uninstalled all drivers & rebooted. Reinstalled them => problem remains.
Tried disabling the uaspstor.sys driver =>the drive not being recognized.
    Tried out other drives.
Only the ones ones which are usb3.0 capable have the problem.
    I had a Lacie d2 quadra 3TB usb 3.0 : same problem
    The lacie d2 quadra 2TB usb2.0 : works fine
All possible tumbdrives work as well (all 2.0) .
Funny that the drives with uas support on the box are the ones ending up not working.

Ran the troubleshooter. But no problems were detected and or fixed.
I also installed the latest Patch bundle yesterday (KB3081424) but the problem persists.
The drive is still detected comes online but once you start putting a bit of load on it it goes haywire
with continues resets and you have to litterly pull the plug to unlock you're system.
I imagine this can't be good for the drive. Just hope i doesn't get corrupt.
Also noticed that if you just turn the drive on after a while the following critical error starts appearing
The device Movies5 (location (unknown)) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash. Windows will attempt to restart the device 1 more times. Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem.

Well, I haven't been so lucky and on one of my external drives the MFT was corrupted when trying to copy data to it using USB3. I had to purchase commercial data recovery software to get my data back...
    My observations:
When I connect the external drive to the USB3 port, I'm getting tons of events 129 and 153, with disconnects and in one case a corrupted MFT as mentioned above. When connecting the same drive to a USB2 port, it works flawlessly (I'm just copying 1TB of data without any events in the system log).
Another observation I made is that apparently the disk when connected to the USB3 port enters standby/sleep pretty fast, I wonder if the problem we face is due to "AHCI Link Power Management"? There is an interesting article at http://www.nxhut.com/2015/01/storahc...to-device.html speaking to this problem with internal storage devices in earlier builds of Windows 10.
Would be good if Microsoft could let us know what driver should be installed, maybe something went wrong during the upgrade to Windows 10 and there is a mix with the previously installed drivers (I'm using an Asus P8Z77-V LE board with Intel Chipset and Asmedia chip for additional USB3 ports).
    Regards,
    Michael

    Hello
    Try this one:
    http://forensenellanebbia.blogspot.l...beware_13.html
" Microsoft added native support for UAS to Windows 8. Drives supporting UAS load Uaspstor.sys instead of the older Usbstor.sys. Windows 8 (10) supports UAS by default over USB 2.0 as well.
That explains why UASP device works in "UASP" mode even if I plug it in on a USB 2.0 port.
    Replace uaspstor.sys with usbstor.sys?
These are the steps for the workaround:

    • boot into safe mode: within Windows, hold the SHIFT key and click Restart
    • click on the Troubleshoot button
    • select Advanced Options
    • choose Command Prompt
    • login into your admin account
    • from command prompt, type C: and press Enter
    • type cd windows\system32\drivers and press Enter
    • type ren uaspstor.sys uaspstor.sys.old and press Enter to rename the file uaspstor.sys into uaspstor.sys.old (or whatever you like)
    • type copy usbstor.sys uaspstor.sys and press Enter to have an additional copy of usbstor.sys renamed into uaspstor.sys
    • close your command prompt by clicking on the "X" in the upper right corner
    • click on the Continue button to exit and reboot into Windows 10 "

    For me it works. Finally.

Unfortunatly my old workstation experienced a critical failure unrelated to the usb drive problem requiring me to buy a new pc. I am now the proud owner of an Alienware Area 51 system.
    Problem solved.
Hopefully this workaround turns out to be usefull for other people experiencing this type of problem

I would, again, uninstall the drivers, then re-install them in Troubleshoot mode. (Right click on driver file for the troubleshoot option. Use the Troubleshooter to install the driver(s), not just to check the hardware.) I am pretty sure the problems that both you and WallyGator describe are due to motherboard (USB port) drivers. I have found the Troubleshoot-installation tool to work quite well with issues concerning wayward legacy drivers and programs.

Actually, I did not find out how to install driver in Troubleshoot mode. Uninstalling and re-installing in "normal" way gives no success. But, anyway, what I found in fact, the external portable disk works properly on USB 2 ( Win 8 / 10 ) only with usbstor.sys driver type, and as OS addresses to uaspstor.sys , the system has to be deceived by replacing the last one with usbstor.sys and renaming it to uaspstor.sys.
