    Making a shutter release

I want to try to make a shutter release for my Canon 1014. It has a small jack that a mini audio plug should fit into.

If I soldier an audio plug to a short cable, then to a simple push-button switch, will it work? The real question is, does the switch only need to complete the circuit? If yes, then it should work.

If anyone has one of these shutter releases, and it doesn't require its own batteries, then I would assume that yes, the switch is only completing the circuit.

    Thanks a bundle.

Okay, well I went ahead and did it, and it works!

I bought a mini mono audio plug from radioshack, soldiered it to a speaker cable, and soldiered the end of the speaker cable to a switch that I pulled out of a broken flashlight. Every time the switch completes the circuit, the camera shoots a frame.

I commend your wanting to make these stuff yourself. You may also find similar releases on ebay as well.

Thanks so much for that. It was a question I was also wanting an answer to. Now I can build an interval timer!! Does the cable release permit continuous filming or just single frame?
