When I was shooting my first in years roll of Kodachrome, I noticed in the viewfinder what appears to be a hair sticking up on the far left bottom side...tried cleaning the lens and viewfinder and film gate..it's still there...it may be inside the lens, or worse, it may be a slight crack in the lens that looks like a hair! Anyway, when I get my film back from the lab, I'll see if it shows on the screen.

I thought you couldn't see a hair in the film plane via the viewfinder? I never have.

I hope it doesn't show on the film...I want to shoot some more super 8, but I don't know who would fix it, and can't really afford another really nice super 8 camera right now!

Ah, the good news is probably REAL EASY to "repair".

Simply open up the film chamber, remove your film (keep track of the film counter, as it will automatically go back to zero!)

You might be able to see the offending strand of protein. Carefully pluck it out with tweezers, being very careful to not let the metal of the tweezers touch the film gate area, or use canned air and blow it out.

I reread your original post and now realize you have already checked your film gate. So perhaps it is somewhere in the "path" leading to the viewfinder, and not in your film gate.

When I got my film back from the lab, I projected it, and there is absolutely no sign of the hair in the image...thank goodness! The bell and howell ms45 does a nice job of getting a sharp image on super 8...although i've found that my human subjects are very impatient when I ask them to stand still for a minute so I can perfect the focus...generation of kids raised on video auto-focus! mike
