Don't shoot at night.
Now the make up tests are out the way , planning a location test shoot , mainly for SFX , but also want to get a feel for shooting with natural light
Anyone have any tips they want to share
Don't shoot at night.
Yes...
Avoid harsh sun. When shooting in the sun get a Slim-Jim or some other sort of diffusion to cast a soft shadow.
Make sure you can hit your actors with some reflection in their eyes. Bounce cards will work but a Lite-Disk would be better. The last thing you want is dark holes for eyes...Well, unless you are making a zombie movie. Seriously make sure you get some sparkle in the eyes.
I don't like to shoot when the sun is at its highest. Some angle on it is much better.
Those are a few that come to mind in the moment. When I was living in Montana 99% of my shooting was outside and it takes some getting used to "lighting" outside.
Good Luck
PS--Wear comfortable shoes.
As if to prove a point ... here is one DP shooting with "available light" from jwsound, LOL

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">.Hey all,
I'm sure we have all had these type of experiences where the DOP assures everyone they will be shooting with the prac light on the set....

I thought the question was about "Natural Light"...Not "Available Light."
