If we look back to the first Thanksgiving, we will see that it was centered on a truce and friendship between the Native American Indians and the English Settlers.

300 years later what remains is a ritual centered around a dead bird in almost every American Home and a broken truce.

I just don't get it.

Giving Thanks is a great idea, but a dead bird as the centerpiece to the celebration reminds me of the shattered truce made between the Native Americans and the English Settlers 300 years ago. Our yearly celebration of Thanksgiving at the expense of 30 million dead turkeys makes one wonder just how "peaceful" our Thanksgivings really are.

You don't need a dead bird in the center of your table to celebrate Thanksgiving. Using a Turkey to symbolize Thanksgiving is a really weird concept. The celebration of our lives and families by the killing of another living animal gives real meaning to the word "savage", a word we used to describe the Native American Indian many hundreds of years ago.
