I've just been diagnosed with placenta accreta and the worst part is that I lost my baby. Is there anyone out there that has the same experience as me? Sure would like to talk to someone who's been through the same thing.

    Hi Sultanategirl,

I have just found your message. I am terribly sorry that you are going through such a horrible experience. I can feel a little what you have been through, I had a very life-threating placenta percreta last year, but was lucky that my baby was saved.
Please e-mail to me, or reply to my message, if you would like to talk about your experience. I can also send you a further link to a e-board dealing with placenta problems where there are more women with placenta problems.
    Kind regards
    Lara

I am so sorry you are going through this! I do know someone who had a similar experience. She has posted on this board a few times. When did all of this happen? How were you treated for the accreta? I apologize that this board is slow...it doesn't get a lot of traffic. Feel free to email me as well for any support. The woman who had a similar experience did go on to get pregnant and have a healthy baby.

    Sultanategirl,

I am so sorry that you lost your baby!
I am the person Jodi was refering to. My first preg ended with a stillbirth at 37wks and an unknown placenta accreta. That was in 2003 and now I have a 13m old daughter.

Please, please post back on this board or email me at [email protected]. I know what you must be feeling and going through. Please contact me.

I am sorry for your loss of your precious baby.

    -Paige

Thank you all for your replies. I was beginning to feel very alone in this thing. It does help to know you're not the only one going through or who has had this experience. I realy need to know how you can get past this both physically and mentally.

    Can anyone help?!!!

Thanks Lara, Jodi and Paige for your posts. I was treated for the condition by getting a shot of methotraxate to dissolve the placenta and some other drug to contract the uterus and minimise the bleeding. The bleeding finally stopped 3 weeks after the miscarrige and a little bit of the placenta is still left but it is showing signs of disapearing. I don't know if it'll ever be alright and the uncertainty just kills me.

It's good though to see that I'm not alone in this. Lara I would also greatly appreciate the link to the e-board where I can chat with other women with this problem.

    Hi Sultanategirl,

Here is the link the other placenta board:

    http://p203.ezboard.com/fcomplicationsinpregnancyfrm7

Hope it works, otherwise let me know. These two sites are the only places I found to talk/email to other women with similar problems. And it is so very helpful to hear from people who went through these very unpleasant situations in addition to only hearing from the specialist surgeons.

I too received Methodrexate for 6 weeks (very high doses). Are you supporting it well? It can have some nasty side effects and I hope you won't get them, but they will go over. The Methodrexate will probably dissolve the left-over bits of your placenta and it is the better solution compared to having to have surgery to get rid of the placenta!

I hope you find the support you need. Write to me/us whenever you feel like it.

In the meantime I wish you loads of strength, health and good luck.

    Kind regards
    Lara

    Hello Sultanategirl,
Please accept my deepest sympathy for your recent loss. I am so sorry.
I wanted to share a little of my experience with Placenta Accreta. I went through 18 hours of labor when I started to bleed and my bp dropped dangerously low. I was taken into an emergency C-section to save the life of my baby and myself. She was born a "blue baby" and was in intensive care for a week. I went into repiratory arrest and after an hour long attempt to save my life, I was put in intensive care for three days. My doctor had no idea I had placenta accreta until the baby was delivered. It was a devastating time. I was told that I should never have another child due to the damage that my uterus from the surgical repair after her birth. It was a difficult and scary time. However, after a highly managed second pregnancy by a high risk specialist, I delivered my second child via a C-section after tests revealed his lungs were developed enough for delivery. Unfortunately, I had to have a hysterectomy after his birth. But, my point is that I was able to have another child after my placenta accreta and suggest finding a high risk specialist in your area to discuss your case and help you with proper treatments in the future. I can be reached at [email protected] if you have further questions. Again, my deepest and sincerest sympathy for your loss. Hang in there...there is hope for you and your condition.

    Dear Lara and Accretamom

Thanks again for your posts and for sharing your very personal and painful experiences. Everytime I get your replies I gather more confidence and hope for my situation. Most of all I know for sure that I can try again and maybe this time the results will be better. I don't even mind if I have only one baby. I'm so glad to read that both of you beat this thing and have beautiful babies to prove it. May God be with you and your children and may they grow and flourish.

To answer your question Lara, I received only one dose of methrotraxate and according to my doctor my dose was very little and should give me no adverse side effects.

Personally I haven't experienced anything that I can call a side effect but I was very tired and still get very tired sometimes but it could be because my husband and I went on this whirlwind month long vacation a week after the miscarriage so I haven't really had time to rest for an extended period of time.

Since the placenta hasn't totally disappeared I may still get another shot of the M but my doc is being very cautious about the administartion of the drug. I guess she wants to be sure that the first dose has stopped working.

Please tell me what the side effects of the drug was for you so I can watch out for it. Was it physical like tiredness or nausea or was it internal and something you can only see by ultrasound or something like that.

How long did you guys have to wait before you tried to get pregnant again and how long did it take for your period to come back?

I feel so much better now and am filled with hope, thanks again for your replies.
