    Nervousnelly, Remember what I said...be cautious about the information you find on the internet. Again, it's best to consult with an OB/GYN with experience or a High Risk Specialist (which are in every major city) about your condition and treatment plans. Although my accreta was not diagnosed until the emergency C-section of my first born and was told not to get pregnant again due to the damage my uterus endured after that birth, I did go on to have a second very healthy pregnancy and scheduled C-section. My physician did not want me to go through the labor because he felt it would put me at a greater risk of bleeding and complications due to the accreta. The ONLY reason I had to have a hysterectomy is because so much of my uterus had to be removed to repair the damage that the birth caused and not as a "cure" so to speak. Also, I am a very petite woman weighing just 105 pounds and had rather large babies, too. He just didn't think that between the surgical repairs and the removal of adhesions after my second delivery that I could support another fetus. Every case is different, just as every patient is one from another. You may fall into a category that allows you to have multiple births easily. There is so much more information out there that is readily available to the OB/GYN's and Specialists. Plus, it is common for physician's to consult with one another should they have an uncommon case. I would however advise that you consult primarily with your OB/GYN instead of a GP. General practioners are good for everyday common ailments, but generally are out of their league in a specialized field. Even my GP did not know what Placenta Accreta was when I was diagnosed! But, a friend of mine who is a Plastic Surgeon did. Glean your information from those who specialize in the area and not the Internet. Remember, there is no real valid proof as to what specifically causes it or what cures it, there is only methods of treatment and care of the high risk patients and their babies. Focus your energy on taking care of yourself right now and try not to get too anxious about all of it. It is alot to ask due to the circumstances, but I'm sure you will be in good hands once you are ready to deliver.
    Sultanategirl, you are awesome. You may not have even recognized just how far you have come, but I have. Your first postings were so unsure and very frail. My heart just hurt so bad for you, and it still does. But, you have grown. You have gotten stronger and wiser. It is so important to take control of your own health and healthcare. You may not realize it, but you started being the one in need of answers and advice, and now you are the one offering the support. What a testament to your faith, strength, courage, and intelligence. You grow girl!
    Keep me posted on your latest findings.
    ~~~~~~YOU BOTH ARE IN MY HEART AND PRAYERS~~~~~
    Dear Accretamom
    Thank you for the compliment. I couldn't have come this far if it wasn't for your kind and thoughtful counsel and that of others Paige, Lara, Jodie. I owe you guys my sanity and hope in a better life.
    P/s: I'm enjoying my holiday to the fullest and believe it or not the heat is worse where I live so the weather here is great in my opinion. Oh and I love the fact that it rains ever so often.
    Dear Sultanategirl
    Regarding the methodrexate side-effects, I suffered from horrible sores on lips, in mouth and tongue. I was unable to eat properly for days and weeks. But as I mentioned I had very high dosages, because in my case of placenta percreta (my placenta was grown through the uterus into the bladder) they left my whole placenta in after the c-section and tried to get rid of the WHOLE placenta with the methodrexate. So, if you haven't had any side-effects yet, you probably won't :-). What I was told is, that methotrexate could make you more tired for up to a year after taking it, but that might also depend on the dosage.
    Regarding my placenta, the methotrexate did not make the placenta disappear the way they had hoped, the placenta did reduce in size, but 2 months after my c-section I started hemorraging in a life-threatening way, so I had to have life-saving surgery during 10hours, a hysterrectomy and part of my bladder removed. But placenta percreta is most likely to be difficult to solve with methotrexate and more often requires hysterrectomy to save the mother's life. I was lucky to survive, and it was my 3rd child, which helped me to get over the traumatic experience. However, as the other women have mentioned, it does take a lot of time to get better in body, mind and soul.
    I can certainly confirm that a positive attitude in whatever your future decions will be, helps a lot. My surgeon told me, that half of the work is the mother's positive attitude when they do surgery.... which of course (I know) is not at all easy at all times. I also suport your decision to get different opinions and most importantly from top-specialists who know what they are talking about and have dealt with various placenta problems!!
    I pray for your recovery and dream to come true about a healthy pregnancy with hopefully no or little complications. Enjoy your holidays and write if you feel like it. We are here.
    Thanks to everyone for sharing their experience and knowledge. It is so nice not to be alone!!!
    (When I was in hospital, I was told there were not many cases like mine: however even if each case and story is different, it does help to communicate !!!)
    Lots of strength and recovery to everyone.
    Kind regards
    Lara
    (P.S. Sultanategirl: a short question: do you live or come from Oman?? I was in Oman on holidays some years ago and it was the most beautiful holiday I ever had)
    I live in Oman and yes it is a very beautiful place. My husband has a 4 year contract there so we'll be there for a while. Oman does have a lot of beautiful beaches, lanscapes and very friendly people which is quite surprising. I was a bit apprehensive when we were transfered there but now I'm more than enjoying my stay. Thanks for all the good wishes and support and yes it does feel good to know that you are not alone.
    Dear ladies,
    I am so glad to log on and read your comments. I agree with all of you that it's nice to have contact with others in the same situation.
    Just to update. You are right - they can detect accreta by monitoring blood flow. I have been transferred to a high risk obstetrician in Wichita. Our high def sono last week shows everything to be fine, although the doctor wants me back in 3 weeks for he himself to complete the sonogram. He says they just don't see cases like mine, so he isn't confident that the sono technician knew what to look for. Following the sono he wants to do an MRI to compare results.
    He then insisted that I deliver in his hospital so that "at the snap of my fingers, I can have 10 people here that know how to deal with you." It's good to know that this time I'll be in a place that can handle any complications. He said they delivered a baby 3 weeks ago and when the placenta delivered, the uterus came out with it. They managed to save the woman's life and her uterus. Amazing!
    I just want to say that you guys are AWESOME!!!! I have not checked the board in a while, mostly because for a period of time there it wasn't moving at all. Although I am sorry to hear of all of your traumatic experiences, I am greatful for your willingness to share your stories and information!!!
    I also want to tell you all that I am pregnant again!!!! I am 8 weeks today, and so far everything looks good. I go for another u/s tomorrow and we are all praying that the placenta will attach itself to the left side of my uterus (where there is no scar tissue). Accretamom....you have really helped to put my mind at ease.....I have a high risk doc plus the doc who delivered my son and managed my accreta. Please keep posting and sharing with each other!!
    Coach Jodi~AWESOME NEWS...CONGRATULATIONS! You will definitely be added to my soaring prayer list tonight. I, like you, got so busy with my life and caring for a very sick Mommy friend battling luekemia, that I just didn't log on for a while. I'm glad I did today. Wonderful and uplifting news. I think that it is great that you are seeing a specialist along with your regular OB/GYN...so smart. We women must start taking charge of our own health as well as our families. Seems we often put ourselves on the bottom of the totem pole. And, self education is my top priority. Ask questions like a two year old. And, if your doc poo-poos you, then find another one. Period. It has to be a committed relationship built on trust and plenty of effective communication.
    I'm praying for all of you ladies. What an extraordinary group of women. I always thought that I was alone in this mysterious disorder. Before this hostboard that you started, I never heard of another woman going through this. Although it is always good to know that others understand...it hurts to know that others also feel the pain. I told my plastic surgeon friend about this site and the incredible stories and he wanted me to make an inquiry. Seems he thinks that PA and IA are manifestations of any prior abdominal surgery, especially a terminated pregnancy. I didn't fit any since my first child was also my first surgery ever. He says that some people, particularly women because of our periods, are prone to adhesions. So, funny thing is that he seems to know more than my old OB/GYN did back then. I just wish that more research could be done to find out why and ways to prevent adhesions and PA/IA. Bringing a child into the world should be nothing less than joyous. So, that is my wish for you Jodi~a healthy, easy, peaceful, and joyous pregnancy and delivery. Keep me posted. I'll check by every month at least. ~With the warmest of wishes, your Internet friend.
    You don't know what it means to me to have found some discussions on this topic. After experiencing a traumatic birth with my 2nd daugther in a VERY unprepared small town hospital, I feel that nothing in my life is the way it was or felt before this happened. After m placenta did not detach and small "bits" came out I was given a D&C and told "yes, all is fine, ther's nothing left inside. 3 weeks later I started to bleed excessively only to find that 2/3rd of my placenta was still there. I had an emergency uterine evac and kept under observation for a few days and then discharged. I guess I was lucky in that my daughter was perfectly fine (I never knew this condition could effect the baby in utero). My main issue with this is that I believed my doctors's were not very knowledgable to this condition and I now have a very low opinion of them and when they say things are fine. I contantly think there is something wrong with me that they have not picked up - since moved towns and consulted 3 different doctors at least twice each in the last 18 months. What scared me was that I always believed and still believe I should have had a hysterectomy - reading all the websites - but I did not and want to know what does my future health hold My husband thinks I'm going mad and urges me to seek councelling due to my depression and anxiety. I know that my condition was obvoiusly not as bad as some and I was blessed that my daughter was fine and should be greatful for that, but I have not met anyone who this has happened to before and feel so alone in my little world. Reading about your experiences has made me feel that I am not the only one and that there seems to be life after this condition. I'm sorry if I'm rambling and none of this makes sense, but I'm typing as I'm thinking. Hope to hear from you soon.
    Dear Accretamom...I too had a similar situation as you and when I read your entry regarding your story I cried. A little over a year ago I gave birth to my daughter Chelsey. I had a very complicated pregnancy with pre-labor at 25 weeks, pre-ruptured membranes at 27 weeks, 8 weeks of hospitalization and bedrest and at 35 weeks it was decided to enduce me as my fluid levels were dangerously low. I was enduce for 10 hours and then my daughter's heart rate climbed very high so I was taken to have an emergency c-section. My daughter was finally born and I thought my tough time was over...only to find out they were having a hard time removing my placenta and that they were going to put me out (not a good sign). I haven't been told exactly what happened but I am pretty sure when they tried to remove my placenta my uterus was torn. I only wish my condition was detected prior and haven't found any answers as to why it wasn't detected??? When I woke, I was in more pain than I had been during labor and I was told I was still bleeding and had to be taken for a blood transfusion and a possibly hystorectomy if they couldn't stop the bleeding. My second surgery lasted 5 hours, I was told different things were tried to stop the bleeding but in the end a hystorectomy was performed. I so understand with your comment that it was a happy time with the birth of your child but a sad time as well. I am so grateful for my little girl as they don't know how she survived; however now they are thinking she may have a slight case of Cerbral Palsy which is affecting her right leg. But once again I am thankful it is only her right leg.
    I too felt such a loss after having the hystorectomy and can honestly say I feel a part of my sole is gone and in some ways I feel I will never be the same. However over time it is getting better...the tears are few and far between. I appreciated hearing how you felt after the hystorectomy to know that I am not alone. Thanks so much for your story and god bless.
