    Granaboard 2013 virtual gathering

5 years is a lot of time, especially on the Internet. Yet every now and then something reminds me of this place and of you guys. As Xellos said in his thread, it's nice to have one's adolescence (or whatever) recorded, but it's even nicer to remember all the good times we've had writing this together, and hours upon hours spent every week for years definitely had to have some degree of impact on who we are.

Even if we ran out of things to talk concerning Grandia II (which is still among the top-5 games ever created according to the last WisemanMarks report), even if real life gets complex and one has to prioritize what to do offline and online, I think it's time to get your ass back to the Granaboard for a 2013 temporary revival!

Please contact everyone you remember and tell him to get here and either log in or create a new account with a similar name to post an update on everybody's lives!
Ryudo, Elena and Millenia are definitely poly.

    Re: Granaboard 2013 virtual gathering

I'll start. So how have you guys been? Kind of ashamed of how silly or annoying you were half a decade ago? You're not alone. I don't understand how could you cope with me, guys. I'd have tried to start a rebellion and create a message board elsewhere >_>. (Wait, wasn't this what I did with GameFAQs?)

So a lot of time passed, and a lot of things changed in my life. From most significant to least, I've been into a stable relationship with an awesome girl for the past 4.5 years. I got tired of social games and casual shit and decided I wanted a serious relationship in my life, so I serendipitously created this online dating site profile, and quickly forgot about it because I had to go to Barcelona for a week to teach (which was part of my job). When I came back, I had a message from a girl a few years younger than I am that lived 20 minutes from home that just happened to be able to steal some neighbour's WiFi access (which lasted no more than three months) to get online and create her account to search for someone because she randomly decided to give that a try. We clicked. Have you ever felt you've met The Right One? I did when she asked me whether I preferred anal or vaginal. Jokes (or not) aside, we got lucky to find each other because there's no way in hell we'd have met elsewhere, as neither enjoy clubbing or dancing. So I got into a relationship with this asocial, geeky, hot, animal-loving (and vegetarian), environmentalist, atheist and litnerd girl who at times seems like a female version of me. We're stable though not getting married; you know the difference between a girlfriend and a wife is at least 20 Kg.

And as such we decided to buy an apartment and move out together. The apartment is under construction but it'll be finished before the end of the year. We plan on living there for a few years, but as as I can reliably telecommute (work from home) and we're sure we're staying in Spain we plan on renting it and moving to a small town in the mountains. That's the kind of thing we enjoy when we go out and when weather allows; we love natural, quiet places. I love to drive; I've got this car when it was out because it's Japanese, reliable, frugal, fun to drive, swift in old towns and big cities, roomy inside, and because this was relevant to my interests.

Professionally, I've been working as a software engineer for the internal computing department of a mid-size company all these years, and I got promoted into management as the CIO which means I get paid more to do simpler work. However, the economic, politic and to a large extent cultural situation in Spain is terrible, and if at any point in the short or mid term we can't make what we want to make, we'll be leaving this shithole and moving elsewhere, probably to Switzerland which I've been to a few times and I love.

Ideologically I have changed a lot. I'm still an environmentalist, I don't think humans deserve better rights than other highly-evolved, sentient species, and I'm still an atheist (at least until the stars are right and dead Cthulhu lives), but I changed two important things.

Politics-wise, I realized most of us don't live in a democracy, regardless of how much shitty politicians fill their stinking mouths with that word; I understood capitalism is evil even if I'm not directly affected by it; I like what this guy thinks; and I think bipartidist politicians and large corporation and bank owners should be afraid, very afraid, and made to pay for the crisis (them and them alone), perhaps getting lynched in the process — they fucked with everyone, now it's our turn. (I'd like to know what Nevan thinks here.)

Finally, I no longer care and think I should not care about what other people do with their lives, as long as it doesn't affect me. Not-caring is what makes people happier overall and is better for health, and putting all modesty aside I have to say I'm god-tier at not-caring. So regarding drugs, I don't do them, but I don't care for what others do as long as I'm not breathing that shit; if they're mostly inoffensive (I know I was partly misinformed OCB) then so be it; for the ones that are harmful, let them get naturally selected away, no fucks (and no funds!) given. Regarding sexuality, I was an idiot; whatever you feel like fucking or loving is alright, and homosexuality is alright, just I don't like people who feel superior due to one or another sexual orientation. (And hey, I encourage every guy to be gay; the more gay males there are, the more pussy available out there for me to bone.) Regarding feminism, I believe in equal rights, which is incompatible with forced equality, affirmative action, and all these so-called positive discrimination policies (as if discrimination could ever be positive), and I'm concerned for my own gender as well given men are subject to inequality, cultural prejudice and institutionalized discrimination too. That said, everyone needs to get laid more and stop caring. My ideal society is that of bonobos; you don't need to fight over stupid shit, worry or care as long as you're having fun and getting what you need.

And as for my free time... I have little as I prefer to go out with my girlfriend or simply fuck her until my dick is sore, but I love Elder Scrolls games. No time for anime and manga, and haven't watched TV regularly in years. Last movie I watched on the cinema was Avatar, fourth time, favourite movie ever. Read Wikipedia articles mostly. Thank goodness for my Galaxy Note 2, I do all kinds of things while commuting. Running Debian Sid or similar on all of my PCs at home and work. Fuck Microsoft and Apple. I'm a semi-regular redditor, my Reddit name is "A", followed by an underscore, then "for", then another underscore, then "Anonymous", thank you Google for not indexing it.

This is what I look like today.

I'd love to read about everyone else and feel free to comment on anything or ask myself absolutely anything.

    Re: Granaboard 2013 virtual gathering

Wow! What a great idea- I fondly remember the hours I spent talking about anything and everything on the Granaboard. I'm almost too embarrassed to look back at it all- I was only 13 or 14 when I posted on the Granaboard- I'm twenty three now and I've graduated from college and started my career. I remember that Akos(Dreamer/Hyper) was one of my best buddies on the site- I clicked with him for several of the same reasons that I liked the board in general- It was a place for non judgmental and unrestricted fun. Oddly enough, all of the writing and such that I did on GB may have helped lead me to my eventual career- after graduating uni, I'm working as a professional writer of sorts- producing documentation and such for a few companies. I also tutor in writing as a side job.

I'm very excited to see what comes of this reunion- Looking forward to the impending nostalgia bomb.

    Re: Granaboard 2013 virtual gathering

Hello everybody. A lot can happen in 5,6 or 7 years. Glad to see Wiseman and CucoBerryAddict are doing well. Hope Akos will join soon. I can say I have stopped playing 3D games a long time ago. Today I play maybe a quick oldie but goodie: a NES game such as Tokkyuu Shirei. Romania is full of attractive women, no complaining here: good looks, great fuck, and the average girl is pretty smart, too. If you come and visit, you would probably never leave, so be careful, they have a way to ensnare you. If you can handle it, of course. College and masters are over and I currently work for Renault as an electronic development engineer for engine computers. It's fun to make cars, and even better to see them win races. This is one of the latest I have been working on, the Clio IV.

I am expecting good news from everybody else. Keep in touch!
    Let it be Light.

    Re: Granaboard 2013 virtual gathering

Soooo I couldn't remember my old password, so I had to make a new name, which is also my XBox LIVE tag if anyone wants to add me, although from the looks of it most of you don't do much console gaming these days.

The last post I could find from me was in 2008, which was my first year of undergraduate. I didn't have much time to go back and reread my old stuff before posting this. Education wise I graduated with from 4 year with a degree in Business, then went and got my Masters in business. I currently work as a manager at a car dealership, which my duties mostly require me to purchase vehicles, supplier relations, and internet sales. The primary car I'm currently driving is a BMW 5.45 that I plan on selling in the next month or so, I'll probably get another BMW after that. I also drive a Honda Civic Hybrid as a company car. Within the next year I plan to open my own dealership. Eventually (long-term 10 years out or so) I want to become a franchise dealer, selling new vehicles.

I haven't dated anyone seriously for the last two years or so just casual stuff and been having a great deal of fun with it at that! I dated a girl for 3.5 years before that, had a bad breakup, and took a little while to recover from it. My main hobby these days is running/exercising. I got to the point where I was ~22kg overweight about 3 years ago and decided to fix it. Started watching what I ate and exercising, when I first started out I couldn't even run .8km without stopping and walking. A few months ago I ran a half-marathon (~21km), and plan on running a full marathon within a year. I'm currently in the best shape I've ever been in.

I still game, mostly on consoles and mostly on the 360. Halo is still my go to game, but I play a little bit of everything. Other than that I've been pursuing my private pilot's license, which I have about 50 hours in the air at the moment, I still need another 30 before I'm able to fly on my own.

My religious beliefs have remained about the same, still rather agnostic, although I care less about religion now than I ever have. As far as politics go, I'm more of a Libertarian now, I believe in letting people and businesses do whatever they want as long as they are not harming anyone else. IRt to Wiseman's portion of politics, I pretty much agree with you. Bipartisanship is a disease to freedom and creates an unnecessary black and white on every issue out there. I believe Friedman's free market capitalism and laissez-faire economic systems to the solution, however unlikely they might be in this age of corporate control.

As Wise did, here's what I look like these days. If you want to see what I look like go to imgur and add this: jEnma7i to the end of the URL, since I can't post links until I'm a 3 day old member.

I look forward to seeing how everyone else is doing!

    Re: Granaboard 2013 virtual gathering

Well, hello everyone. It's lovely to see other oldschool members =) Dreamer told me about this topic, so I thought I'll might as well give some "feedback" on what has happened to me in the past.. dear Lord, how many years has it been? 5? 6?

I also did not remember my password, but after a quick password reset my account is back to full force.

Now let's get to my life story.. it has been absolutely dull. Finished a 2 years long IT course, and I'm currently in my last semester as an English major, though I got to admit, linguistics is still not really close to my heart. If all goes well I will finish university in July-ish, then I plan on moving abroad, sadly the living conditions in Hungary is really bad, so can't really see myself staying and looking for a job here. If I will not be able to find a job somewhere in the UK or Canada (for some reason I'm not that interested in the US - no offence meant to anyone, simply not my world), then I guess I'd go for an MSC and try to work as either a book translator, or an interpreter. Translation is closer to me though, as I love reading, mostly fantasy and sci-fi novels, or manga.

Since Dreamer and I both go to the same university, our schedule is pretty much the same too, so I see him basicly 3-4 times a week. We managed to do most of the mandatory classes in the previous semesters, so in this one we actually have a decent amount of free time. Sadly writing our thesis and preparing for classes/exams do seem to take away quite a big chunk from that though. Oh well, uni is uni, I guess I'll have worse after finishing it.

I've never really been a big religious nutjob, and I've kept to that. I guess you can say that I have my own religion. I do believe that there is a higher power, but I also believe in supernatural and extra-terrestrial creatures. Hey, if the multiverse theory is correct, then I quite highly doubt that we are the only sentient beings. Also, I truly don't think that people should go to church to "get in contact" with their God. Yeah, I guess you can say that I've become a weird(er) person =) I've also became quite a sarcastic person. I guess 6 years of being a forum moderator does that to you..

I had been in a very happy relationship for 3 years, but after 3 months of problems we decided that it's better if we go separate ways. I've been trying to date since then, but for some reason neither of the new "candidates" felt right, so I'm still waiting for a miracle Not really desperate though, I'm only 24, my time will come sooner or later.

Freetime activities.. I've kept my habit of playing video games. Sadly Nevan I won't be able to add you to x-box friends, as I'm more of a pc gamer. I absolutely love RPGs still, whether they are single player or multiplayer. Sadly single player RPGs are not as common as they used to be, it seems mmorpgs will take over. I don't really mind, played my fair share of them: WoW for probably about 5-6 years (with breaks every now and again), Lord of the Rings Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and now Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World. Strangely enough my all-time favorite game is still Baldur's Gate 2, no matter how many new and most likely more "awesome" games came out since its release. Go figure.

The biggest change in my life is most likely my musical taste. I used to listen to much softer music, now it's basicly almost metal-exclusive. Yet again.. metal has a lot of different kinds, and not all of them are that harsh to the ear. If I had to pick, I would say my favorite genres are Power Metal (Sonata Arctica, Blind Guardian, Edguy/Avantasia, Nightwish, etc.) and Folk Metal (Prydein, Korpiklaani, Dalriada [a Hungarian band], etc.) I had long hair for about 3-4 years, but then it kind of became a burden, so I had it cut. Now I feel much more comfortable.

If you are really that interested, then I guess this would be a still salvagable picture of me. (Left side, if someone would not remember how I looked). Looking forward to hearing from all of you, hope you are doing great in your lives
No, really? You spoke to whom about what?

    Re: Granaboard 2013 virtual gathering

Oh, I've been waiting for this to come Greetings to everyone!
What surprised me at first was that I still instantly remembered my password, which makes me feel pretty amazing right now.

I was excited and happy to see Wiseman's e-mail in my inbox, and I feel a bit ashamed it took me this long to post here - maybe I just wanted others to post first, hell knows. Anyhow I see how all of you became successful - feels like talking to a bucnh of old people :P ...nah just kidding - I'm gald everyone is doing fine. Car dealer, electronics master, professional writer, all these make me feel so tiny, doing my last semester of the small University of mine, trying to become a translator, but alas, that will come later.

Ah the nostalgia it brought to me to have the idea in my mind to post here again. Like a flash it all came to me, my favourite, the Resident Evil roleplay we did, all the arguements OCB and Wise used to have, all the insanity brought to us by Xellos and all the fun I had with Myth and of course our beloved CucoBerryAddict (which is still Kuko :P, but no offense), or should I call you Loren?

I've been seeing your facebook status updates, traveling all around the states, and I thought it must be pretty damn awesome to do so, you HAVE to elaborate on that journey. We NEED to talk more, especially now that you wrote that you are a professional writer, sort of, whatever that means! I've been writing a few short stories myself (sadly in Hungarian) and have done a few Emily Dickinson poem translations, and I'm also planning to translate a shorter novel of Sylvia Plath (for kids) and start off some kind of career in Hungary with that kind of stuff...

I cannot help to mention that all the stuff Wiseman wrote in his post simply reek of a grown, mature businessman with those fix values and views both in politics and religion; then this statement came: "We clicked. Have you ever felt you've met The Right One? I did when she asked me whether I preferred anal or vaginal." I laughed out loud (or lol'd) and realized he hasn't changed a bit! So typical of you, Wise :P

IRT Nevan, great job on yourself, I envy your persistence (I couldn't get myself to do a few sit-ups every now and then) and I congratulate you on what you achieved. I was glad to hear from you too. Strangely, two of the things I remember the most in connection with you is A) You gave me a Gmail invitation when it was still epic and rare; and B) You used to love to wear Loafers - maybe you still do.

What I am sad about is that Xellos, OCB, Cavalier, and NocturneEagle (who was also a great short story writer) managed to disappear so well that all these years I've been unable to contact them in any way. Oh wait, I'm lying here, I did manage to catch OCB online a few years back, I was the "blast from the past" as he put it. All I know about him is that he is in flash and fancy 3D animation and is doing way too complicated stuff on the computer and meanwhile creating wonders on the screen. Anyway, we'll see if he'll show up.

I honestly say I don't even know where to start! Life's been real good. I'm living happily with my fianc?e for over 6 years now (I proposed to her on the 13th of november, 2011) and to relieve Wiseman, I'm getting laid. A lot. Of course not as much as I would like to. But it's still a lot. We had a few bumps in our relationship, some real minor arguements, but nothing that wasn't settled within hours, and we're planning to stay together forever. We agree on almost anything, and although life hadn't been kind to her I'm helping her through anything she must face, and I'm truly happy beside her. She is the RIGHT one. I'm currently saving money so we can move to our own apartment somewhere in the capital for easier access to my future jobplace and University (for her, she's studying to become a high-school teacher, and btw she would be awesome as one), and meanwhile we're traveling between Duna?jv?ros and ?rd (about 55km) at least twice a week, sometimes crashing at their place, sometimes at mine, but what is important is that we are almost always together, almost living together, only not in our own place. We haven't spent more than 2 days apart in the past years. So yes, we even had our engagement ring made (apart from with which I proposed) which was financed by her grandfather (will link a picture) and we also bought her wedding dress. Now we only need money for an apartment and the wedding is on!

After my beloved managed to get my ass to apply for Uni, I did, and been doing that the past 3 years. I'm finishing it this summer, and the plan is to find myself a job in order for us to move out from the parents' home and create our own. Meanwhile I'll need to get a certificate in German (which I hate) so I can apply for the translator/interpreter Master, another jolly 2 years of school. Nothing so specific as for you guys, but hey, I'm trying my best and that is what counts. Also I have a slight problem communicating with the people of this world, and I'm not too self-confident either and it's making my job seeking future unimaginable for me, but I'll see how that goes when I get there. Now all I got to do is prepare for my finals.

Gaming, ah gaming, it's all the same! I LOVE spending my time in front of the computer, recently I've got caught up in the Assassin's Creed series (played through first and second episode, currently into the third, "Brotherhood") so much that I even bought the book written about it, and I'm planning to get them all. I also tried out Guild Wars 2, and I enjoyed it pretty much, and also found myself back in World of Warcraft (mostly because my dear is also playing and we can do it together), but nothing serious and geeky now, like in the old days. I played the new Devil May Cry game (at HellKnight's place), and it was pretty damn amazing too. Not much of console gaming here, mainly because I only own a PS2. I'm still a fan of Resident Evil, and I only wish they would be able to make a RE game that is actually a survival horror instead of a TPS (I have my hopes up for Resident Evil 6, which I'll grab sooner or later for PC) However, I simply don't have the time and energy to get involved in games as much as I used to.
I also replayed (for who knows how many times now) Grandia II, and ofcourse you guys came to my mind. I still think it is the best story and game ever written, and even Assassin's Creed failed to change that. I've also bought from ebay the Japanese Grandia II guidebook, with all the characters, scenery, cities and items with detailed descriptions in it... sadly in Japanese. If ANYONE has some knowledge of the Japanese language, please don't hesitate to contact me as I'm craving for a translator so I could actually "read" the book, not just browse the pictures. (Which are awesome btw)

In my leftover freetime I'm doing assignments for Uni, having fun with Gy?ngyi (you can guess who she is :P) and working on my fantasy novel. I've also written a few short stories which I am proud of, and whenever I have a theme I fancy I try to put it to paper. I'd also like to travel (saving up cash for that as well) and I've been to a few places in Hungary last summer. I'm also a fan of music, most recently the bands Dead by April and Unguided, but they are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to music I listen to. Sadly the bands I enjoyed around 2006 have either changed their musical style or did something that I don't like, so in some cases I'm stuck with listenning to their old albums - that were still great - instead of the new mess they made. But alas! Rock and Metal is my taste... still. (Sometimes I listen to Lady Gaga and enjoy nostalgia with the tracks of Britney Spears, so, sue me!)

I think that's all for starters, feel free to ask me anything, contact me for anything, I'm also available on Facebook, and my e-mail address hasn't changed.

Again, thank you for all the amazing time you gave me here on the Granaboard, and I will always have fond memories of You. After all, you taught me how to use a torrent, how to use a forum, introduced me to anime and gaming, and hell you guys improved my English a great deal!

And finally, as I promised, some pictures:

I'm adding!!! I got a wife and two kids and a graduated college not once but twice! I also sailed the seven seas, smoked weed with Elvis, and stopped a mastermind from stealing the Mona Lisa. Like to see some one top that!

BTW, any one here (hello any one, any one????) still hear from the REAL old timers? CrazyElf, Phaq, Dragonrider? Or are me and Wiseman the only two left? I'd like to think I'd need to go Highlander on his ass but he's the admin so he got me beat.

Did you manage to miss the thread just below this one, where 2 of them(one of which created it) posted?

BTW, any one here (hello any one, any one????) still hear from the REAL old timers? CrazyElf, Phaq, Dragonrider? Or are me and Wiseman the only two left? I'd like to think I'd need to go Highlander on his ass but he's the admin so he got me beat.
Well, if memory serves, you just lost the title of oldest. I outgrew phaq, having a screen name that basically states "**** you" stops being funny by your mid 20's, nevermind your 30's.

Still haven't made **** of myself, but I have no regrets, as I know I'll figure out what I'm doing with myself some day.

Classic gamer nowadays, as in 2D cartridges(or really, emulation of). Burned out on the modern generations, and I don't think I'm ever going back to discs. No love for FMV's/voice acting(in video games). Not to mention, if I get the real thing, how pussy weak they are. Burned out on RPG's as well, but that seems to be coming back.

So yeah, no more Grandia 2 for me, which really, is about the only game I miss from that era anyway. That and maybe the Fire Pro Wrestling game, but there's always the best SNES version of that series, and maybe Parallel Trippers on the GBC for a Grandia game.

Oh yeah, same thing @aol if any of you still do instant messenger(not that that's the program I use). I'm not a social network type, so no facebook, or twitter, or skype,or whatever other BS for me.
