Just got my Neil Young Archives 1-4 CD box-set. I'm not set up to play my vinyl versions which I purchased when first released over 40 years ago. If the old vinyl punches like the remastered Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere CD I would be surprised. I must get my turntables running to compare.

Harvest is now playing. Out On The weekend: Altec bliss.

The first four-album box-set(in jewel cases) is now a BARGAIN. e,g, Neil Young - Official Release Series Discs 1-4 [CD New] 93624949756 | eBay

Neil was at one time very outspoken about his hate for digital.
I gather he changed his tune as he launched his own high res player. But you have to purchase the high res material from his company. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Not sure it ever flew? For me it was way too expensive.
My guess is this box set you bought is top quality.

The discs are HDCD. I didn't notice at first and played them on my regular CD deck. I'll have to play them again on the Oppo.

My boxed set is issue ID. 9362-494975 REPRISE, as described here: Neil Young / Official Release Series | superdeluxeedition . The slip case is not tight on mine.

The various issues are noted here: Neil Young - Official Release Series Discs 1-4 at Discogs

16 Bit Phillips TDA1541A chip set here. Modified Phillips DAC 960
Still regarded as very analog sounding.

My OPPO is an old DV 980H upscaling DVD player that also happened to be a pretty good CD, SACD, HDCD, DVD-Audio player. Nothing exotic but does the job.

The chips are Cirrus Logic CS 4631, 24bit 196kHz, and TI NE5532A. I think at the time the chips weren't so bad.

I'm pounding one of the best Australian rockin', pulsin', party 'albums'(my DVD soundtrack rip) that I have. Lots of bass, drums. dynamics and everything else. Passion plus!

    Play it LOUD.

Hmm, I can see The Angels Live At La Trobe University 1979, so let's see if this displays:

edit: spacing looks weird and now I can't scroll on any of the hostboard pages I tried and this whole session has been bog slow, as in been able to listen to a video while a page loads!
