    Currently, I'm really enjoying Diana Krall's greatest hit's CD...:2thumbsup:

    Inky black background, superb orchestration and backup musicians, and of course the pipes of the Canadian songbird...

    Re: OT Your Favorite or Most Respected Musical Artist

    Some real greats mentioned in this thread. Not surprisingly, just like personal preferences/tastes are all over the map as far as speakers/design, the same follows for favorite/most respected artists. I have to think that Altec fans have "good" ears in general (not just for great speakers but for music as well), based on some of the greats (IMHO) mentioned in this thread like JJ Cale, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, Clapton, Dave Edmunds, Floyd, Zappa, Petty, of course Les Paul (the genius who "invented" the electric guitar). I've got several of those artists in my collection, and have a lot of respect for all of them plus more artists that some of you mentioned--the list is getting pretty big in this thread. You guys posted some great videos and I couldn't resist chiming in.

    I listen to a lot of contemporary artists and have many that I really enjoy, but if we're going for all time favorites in this thread then a couple for me that haven't been mentioned yet would be the Who and there was also this 60's band called the Beatles. I spent some time tonight searching youtube and here's a couple of classic songs/vids that stood out for me by each of these two groups--Be sure to watch in FULL SCREEN MODE.....

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dlN55SoF4Q"]CLASSIC WHO SONG FROM QUADROPHENIA[/ame]

    BOTH OF THESE CLASSIC SONGS FROM QUADROPHENIA FEATURE JOHN ENTISTLE ON BASS--A HUGE PART OF THE WHO'S SOUND......

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAt0hF3hruU"]ANOTHER GREAT BASS PERFORMANCE BY JOHN ENTWISTLE[/ame]

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LX3aqD0aNk"]ABBEY ROAD MEDLEY--NICE VERSION![/ame]
    I SAW MCCARTNEY ON THIS TOUR IN TORONTO---THIS MEDLEY WAS SMOKIN' THAT NIGHT (I KNOW IT STARTS A LITTLE SLOW BUT PICKS UP STEAM FAST!)
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdrGS__yg6Q"]GEORGE MENTIONS TOWARDS THE END OF VIDEO THIS IS THE FIRST RECORD WITH A BACKWARDS TRACK ON IT[/ame]
    THIS STYLE OF "CONCEPTUAL" (EARLY MTV STYLE) VIDEO PREDATES MTV BY MANY YEARS. THESE GUYS WERE REAL PIONEERS--FIRST BAND TO INCORPORATE BACKWARDS TRACKS INTO ROCK SONGS....

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsFKWGlrze0"]GREAT PERFORMANCE FROM 1974![/ame]

    THE WHO'S ORIGINAL LINEUP--KEITH MOON LOOKS DERANGED IN THIS VIDEO--ESPECIALLY THE TIMES WHEN THEY HAND HIM THE MICROPHONE!

    I'd be curious to hear if anyone enjoys these vids or likes these bands/videos......

    So many that it IS hard to pick.

    One Christmas I heard a recording of George Shearing playing "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentleman" & "Take Five" at the same time! And he made it sound both good and easy. I have great respect for Mr. Shearing, now.

    Also a big fan of Pierre Boulez as a conductor. He has a profound understanding of 20th Century music and conducts it so well.

    I've tainted my cookies with my local info so i cannot post the link i want to.

    If you go to the PBS website, click schedules and a box will come up for you to plug in your zip code, then you pick your TV station and a full schedule will appear, there's also a search function so you can just get the listings for Jeff Beck if you prefer.

    Scheduling will vary by region and your local PBS carrier. I just discovered it will be rebroadcast in my area tomorrow at 4:30 pm.
