What amplifers are you using with your Altec gear?

I have had Altec speakers for over 10 years now , A7's with Multicell 803 horns ( sold them) , a pair of Altec 604-8k's ( sold the 8k's ) in MLTL's, a pair of Valencia's (still own those) and a pair of GPA 604-8III's in a bit larger MLTL cab.

I use mostly SET amps either DIY 845 or DIY 2a3 SET's, but I sometimes use a DIY IT coupled 45PP amp or a pair of Rebuilt Wurlitzer IT coupled 45PP amps.

Always DHT powered amps !

Tubes !! Low powered, single ended for A7-800 ( 515B and 802s / 811s ).

Self - designed, KISS, two stages, direct coupled - similar to a Loftin White....my favorite tube topology. "Less is more."

Half a 6SL7WGT directly coupled to a triode-connected 6AQ5, into a Magnequest DS-050 output transformer.

All power supply iron / magnetics are under ten Ohms in DCR ( chokes and high voltage power transformer ).

Everyone will likely cringe, but an old Harmon Kardon 630. Works, gets as loud as I need.

Nah ! I have some old Technics Amps that sound nice.. I like the sound of some of the Amps made in the Mid Seventies... I have an old SA-800 that has plenty of power and sounds really nice.I also use a Technics SA-GX710 for home theater use that also has 125 watts per channel.. Also McIntosh 2205/C32 for my serious listens.

Recently, I've been using the Technics SU-8600, but a couple weeks ago it gave out on me. I need to put it on the bench and see if I can figure out what went wrong...

Has anyone experimented with what is 'better' for the new GPA 604-8H III, a good solid state or a good valve?
Was the driver designed with SS or tube in mind?

I miss my meters

The excellent sounding Hitachi HMA 8500MKII I was using tried to kill my Altecs
It had 100 watts of mos fet goodness.
I thank bowtie427ss for recommending this amp to me.

So for now I am back to using a very mediocre sounding H/K 3485.

Altec 416b, 802G w/811, Heil AMT in large MLTL cabs. Driven by triamp JBL 6290, Pass F5, variety of amps on the Heils but my Kenwood 7550 is usually in that place. I have a second Pass F5 to build, sitting on the bench and that will displace the JBL, eventually.

DIY Aleph j driving the M19's. Got about a month of time on it so it's still not broke in but sounds better all the time. The AJ replaces a Rotel RB1090 that at 370 watts per made me nervous every time I would leave the house with the kids home alone. The Rotel was not just about power it is a very good sounding amp with Altec's. Bought the Rotel to drive a pair of Polk SDA's that after buying the Altec's are now dust collectors.
