Just a reply to bowtie about the labelling of 803Bs.
There is always one exception to any thought with Altec....
Agree completely. There is always one exception to any thought with Altec....
It seems "we had a few of those parts left over" applies to nearly every product they made after the late 50's/early 60's.
............ and if you want to see the decals get really whacky, take a look at 802C's and 802D's. It will leave you feeling like the type of decal doesn't have all that much to do with the vintage. I have seen numerous C's and D's with both the transfer type decals and foilcals, and i think at least a couple different foilcals on the D's.

Not all vegetables make good leaders.
Maybe we need to limit 'vintage' Altec to just the stenciled or metal tagged components..........

i think i just saw some RARE VINTAGE!!! earbuds
Sonic Barbarian
I have one of those! I still have an original Juliette 14, my first 'pocket' transistor radio with optional ear bud in its own little leather carrying case strapped to the radio case's strap. It must be really rare as I couldn't find one on Google images to point to.

Its interesting that those cabs have been sanded so much with fine sandpaper that the hard grain is raised and the soft is recessed, but I like it. But then again, I also like sand blasted wood finishes.

What's even more interesting is with that photo I posted, the cone part number is 21090, which I was sure was a roll/paper surround, but the front shot of that 'early' 803B has an accordion surround....
I just like keeping pics of all these things when they pop up. Helps you identify later on, "heck was that really a factory combo, or is this seemingly original unit a monster..."
