He is also a great guy ! And still finds the time to answer our questions that happen to come up from time to time...I'm in the camp of the Mom & Pop stores like Great Plains and dislike the Home Depot's the Walmarts etc...I believe we all need to support the Mom & Pop's more before they all disappear.

I also try to promote GPA whenever I can when related to Altec products regardless of which forum I'm on.

Bill does a great job.All the parts or re-cones I have had done by GPA have all been Top-Notch !

    Re: Lansing Field Coil 15XS

Brace yourselves for trivia dead ahead! Jim Lansing used a Magnavox part... a formed, die cut phenolic spider, in almost all of his 2" voice coil 15" field coil drivers. This part was also used in the Magnavox 12" drivers as seen in the exotic E.H. Scott Quaranta radio and in other places. Jim Lansing had redirected his business to the production of fancy theatre horn loudspeakers at this point (1936), and distributed Magnavox radio speakers to satisfy his existing radio set clientele. Ray E. Tolerton's patent on this spider, assigned to his employer Magnavox, can be seen here:

Note the similarity to the Altec Lansing 3" voice coil spider as used later in the 515 woofer and 604 Duplex of 1945. They basically adapted the Magnavox design to a 3" voice coil. Who knows at this point whether royalties were paid?
