I don't see a 90 degree sectoral horn? oh never mind, I think they mean 90x 60 sectoral horn. I was picturing a horn with a 90 degree turn in it.

I still think that is another driver on the right. Especially when you compare the seller's pic with the add. But, the seller has such a mash up he's trying to sell, I think he really doesn;t know what he has.

That driver on the left is the 802, and the 511 is in the middle, and right of the horn, as per the seller's pics, looks like another compression driver with out the horn.

FWIW, i see a round plate with a "chicken head" knob in the center of it.

I can make the image a little bigger if it helps.

Yes, I've periodically posted this high SQ 'super' tweeter option, though all of us that I'm aware of mounted them to a 3/4" thick baffle rounded over with felt ring to damp reflections back to the horn's throat. This allows a 5 kHz/2nd order slope, so R-O-T without a round-over would be ~ a half octave higher = ~7000 Hz.

    Agreed.

Definitely not a 511A and if the ad's picture is correct, the originals have 511Bs since the 511E has an obviously truncated throat: http://auctions.c.yimg.jp/images.auc...gd3itw2366.jpg

No clue what Rod actually got or if he had them updated and/or bought more with revised engineering and/or..........???? One thing I do know though is that the local distributor built similar 'replicas' both vented and sealed and at least one pair each using a mix of 414/416 and 515/416 to create 2.5 way [mid]bass/woofer systems.

Frankly, my first thought was these are either one of theirs or other major Altec distributor's creations. I learned a lot of the more esoteric points of speaker system design/installation from their in-house engineers.

Looks like the Rodspeakers are for sale again. Seller says if they don't sell this time he is donating them to the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

Btw I asked the seller about the one different looking woofer. They said "That speaker was the only one of the four that was professionally cleaned by Cerwin Vega".

    Hmm. Interesting.

I am also curious what Rod actually did with these speakers. Did they just sit in his house unused? Was it just a promo deal and he never really used them? Maybe he loved them and jammed out every day

    Re: Awesome Original RodSpeakers !

It got me thinking along the same lines. Nothing much on the internet to add to what is on this forum.

Did the 'Rods' go to the UK and return to the US?

One thing I did notice in a pic. in this thread is that the cab has voids showing in the plywood edges. Seems wrong to me for a high profile sample.
Opinion is only as valid as its verifiable supporting evidence.
