sad piece of history? or opportunity?

Bruel Kjaer Beat Frequency Oscilator Type 1014 Peteniometer Logarithmic Print | eBay

"This is a Bruel & Kjaer Beat Frequency Oscilator which has many uses. It came out of the ALTEC Lansing Accoustic Lab in Anaheim California during ALTEC's hey day. It's in great condition. My father used it to test restored microphones. It comes with a Poteniometer & logarithmic printer with many rolls of paper. My father used the graphing capabilites to record the restored microphone's response to a known standard."

Unless somebody did a shotgun replacement, the tubes are likely all MUllard and/or Telefunken. I see equivalents for 12au7, and 6au6, and what's a Mullard or Tele 6bq5/el84 worth these days.

Re: sad piece of history? or opportunity?

Let's see if this post makes it, this is my 5th and final attempt to post here over the course of a week.

It's very likely this was Bill Hayes' rig. If some one had serious interest in acquiring and operating the business, they should have started "apprenticing" with Bill several years ago, his art is now gone forever.

My advice to any Altec enthusiast with the means, space, and interest, start working with Bill at GPA now, while he is still of sound mind and body and able to pass on key knowledge. If you wait for something to happen, it will, and it will play out as in every other estate situation, it will become a liquidation.

I'm embarrassed that folks have to go through this time and time again. Steven says he is always working on it trying to upgrade the servers but it just seems to get worse and worse... My Apologies Bowtie !

And on top of that I'm getting lots of complaints on folks trying to register to no avail ! It says they have been banned or the email verification just freezes.

No apologies necessary AB, in fact i should be apologizing for bitchin before i had coffee, and instead of bitchin about the server issues, i am actually still just thankful that our site still exists here.

It gets a little frustrating when you put thought and time into a long winded posts only to get "server too busy" when you submit it. But, still glad to be here at the end of the day.
