    Component/Crossover Quandary

    Greetings All,

Due to varying life circumstances I was forced to sell my Altec Model 19?s a little over two years ago? I have missed them every day since.

But as fate would have it, I have been presented with an opportunity!

I am hoping to piece together a pair of speakers based on my recent inheritance:

Original N1201-8A crossovers from Model 19?s
Altec 802-8G HF drivers mounted to 811B horns.
Onken (petite version ~155L) cabinets with Altec 414z LF drivers mounted.

I will be driving these with 300B Monoblocks (can be changed to 2A3 if required)

I guess my biggest question would be how to integrate the N1201-8A crossover to work with the 16ohm 414z LF driver?

Any thoughts/insights/opinions would be most appreciated.

    Many Thanks!

Since you plan to use a SET amp, I'd first experiment with a cheap 25 ohm pot across the 414 to find what loading it prefers for best overall bass performance and if you find something you like, then measure it and replace it with either a decent non-inductive wire wound power resistor [with tap if required] or make a resistor grid with your preferred choice of resistors; otherwise swap out the woofer ckt. inductors: Model 19 coil resistance

Hopefully, the XO's trim pots will be good enough to dial in any baffle step compensation [BSC] and blend the 414's wider HF BW to the horn, otherwise you'll have to tweak the 1201 by ear unless someone has already done it, or a from scratch custom, they will share.

    Thanks for the response GM!

I should also mention that I can configure the 300B SET (bottlehead paramounts) for 4ohm, 8ohm, or 16ohm outputs.

I am wondering which scenario is preferred:

SET 8ohm taps and add a suitable parallel resistor to the 414z to drop it closer to 8ohms

    or

SET 16ohm taps and add a suitable series resistor to the 802-8G to increase it closer to 16ohms

    Thoughts?

Just try the different taps. Your ears will let you know.
I agree with GM, try the pot as well.
