Wish these were close enough to have a look-see, test. If 515Bs keep escalating, I may need to reconsider keeping mine till I die: VINTAGE ALTEC LANSING MODEL 515B 15" THEATER SPEAKER PAIR - ORIGINAL 21184 CONES

I apologize Phil, no serious interest here. I didn't mean to give the impression that i was interested in them.

I have been down the Duplex road, seen the sights, heard the sounds. Sold the last of my 604's a few months ago in the continuing purge. All of the pro stuff is going this winter. I've hurt myself, and can no longer move big gear around. By this time next year i hope to be down to an audio collection that will fit in the trunk of a small car.

Thats about the going rate for a clean pair of 515s with original cones. The 16 inch frames will bring a little more.

Just remember, whatever any aficionado has to say regarding the 605...it was the 605 that EMI qualified and this was the speaker the Beatles listened to in the studio. That is why the Beatles records were better than the 604 produced records.

I may have made up the last sentence. 😀

I love my 604's, I think even more than my 19's, I grew up with them is the reason I think.. Now I have to hear a pair of 605's, would love to hear the differences.... But sadly I listen to klipsch speakers now... I love Altecs, gotta find a way to put Altec parts in my klipsch's....

I'd be very surprised that either fact is the result of the 605 being "better" than the 604.

I'd wager this all took place around the time that Altec announced the 605 as a replacement for the 604. If this led a prospective buyer to believe the 604 was discontinued, wouldn't they have to go with the current production 605?

I blame it on marketing, penny pinching at Altec, and the Canadians.

    the canadians! yes! 😀
But does anyone think the 515 in a ported enclosure is superior to the 416?
...I KNOW in a horn loaded cab, the 515 is the ticket....I dunno, maybe I will learn something...
