I like what you did but I don't have your build skills.
The 825/828 cabinets are what I m stuck with.
On the plus side I got a could of old pcs running Windows 98 and I have them talking to my ecrossovers.
I have also done sanding my 828 cabinets ... Getting ready to buy some Benjamin Moore paint for the restore.

    Hi,

What makes you think that an MLTL will be better than an A7 - properly optimized???

With an A7, you have a DISTINCT advantage of a horn loaded woofer, down to 135 Hz, that you do NOT get in an MLTL.

In my recent experience, if you wire the 15 inch really well, internally in a A7/VOTT, and have really good amplification, you will have a DYNAMIC CONTRASTING that you simply can't get with a non-horn-loaded ALTEC woofer in a MLTL.

The dynamic contrasting, of just such an A7/VOTT, is SO much FUN to hear, wow!!!

My listening experience - heard both designs - ( optimized GPA MLTLs and A7s ) and just my two cents !!

    Have fun, I sure am.

Well I made a Great Leap Forward this weekend. I got my electrovoice Merlin isp 100 crossover configured with an old win98 desk top pc. This is one very nice digital crossover with 24 bit resolution and 128k sampling that sounds very nice. I then loaded a 416-8a into a 825 cabinet, mount the 1005 and 288-16g, biamped them with An rca rs177 console amp and fired it up.

I played with the isp100 settings and ended up with a simple 2 way

Lows crossover at 825hz 12db butterworth
Highs crossover has -2db cut and frequency set at 825hz at 24db slope
I implemented some cd horn equalization, cutting 2db between 2-5khz
I reduced the port size by 50%.
I got very nice sound out of the system.

Making some progress to my projects... here are some pictures of where I am at.
Left cab = 825 cab with 515-8G driver
    Right cab = 416-8A in 828 enclosure
RCA RS177A console tube biamping both - around 8W or so.

i recognize the low end curve on your laptop. i had the same. with my 828s. i've come to agree that forced bass is like a forced smile.

I dont notice a huge difference in the bass with this curve, which is 9dB boost center around 30Hz with a Q of 1. I will put a class A ss amp on it tomorrow and see what happens.
I did implement a CD eq center around 3K of -2dB... which is just about perfect.
So far sounds real promising. I cant tell a huge difference between the cabinets. At least not yet.
