    Another Diaphragm Identification thread.

I bought a set of 802ds with the one of the two having the diaphragm in the pictures. Does not look like anything I have seen pictures of as being Altec. Does anyone recognise it as something that was available in the past. The story I was told is that the seller was selling for his brother who moved over seas, and new nothing about the drivers history. The diaphragm has a yellow tint as seen in the pictures and I have not seen anything like it in my searches. All of of the Chinese diaphragms I have seen on ebay do not appear similar to this unit. The resistance across the voice coil is 7.1 Ohms. Thanks! DSC00211.JPGDSC00212.JPGDSC00214.JPG

    That would be my guess.

An early "aftermarket" ( if you will ) most likely sourced from Japan and created by the same multinational that provided Coral with the M-100 driver ( Japanese companies were certainly keen to break into the American SR business around this time ).

Here's a shot of the Coral diaphragm.

I had phrams that looked a little like these when I first got some 604 8gs, the difference was where the folded aluminum is, mine had some form of orange brownish membrane. They would rip your head off, certain high notes you didn't hear in front of the speakers, you heard them in your head at loud dbs. Wish I new what they were. Amazing how many companies made knock offs of Altec phrams, just lets you know how popular they were...

Thanks everyone for the responses. Its seems to be an oddball, now sitting in a box replaced by GPA Phrams. If anyone has a need for it let me know. I don't believe I will ever have a use for it given it a single and it has no value to me. Appreciate the input!!
