    Re: Altec 620 cabs

I also sold my old Luxman L-510 as this amplifier did not suit my taste of sound for the Altec. It was a great amp for my previous speakers but for these type of setup a tube-amp was much more preffered. So a Audioromy fu-29 does a great job to these, maybe a Little bit to powerful but the improvement in sound is dramatic. (this is not a original amp, it?s modded pretty much everywhere).

Now I just need to finns a descent RIAA for my Denon DL-103r mc.

Hi I exchanged my valve riaa/preamp to get my set of A5s with 1505b horns and am now using Boozehound Labs riaa and MC. I use Boozhound powersupply for the riaa and the MC pre amp runs on 2 9v batteries. Great sound, regardless of low price and simplicity. Works well with my Lenco, 12" tonearms and Denon 103 and SPU A. I vill use the BHL riaa until I find a superior valve riaa kit.

Been wanting to try the D103 for a while. Broke the cantilever off my Goldring Eroica a few weeks back and really don't see spending that much on a cartridge again. Glad to see its a good match for Altec's.

Old fashioned MCs like Denon Dl103 and the Ortofon SPUs in 12" relatively heavy tonearms really make the Altecs sing. There is no reason to spend 1000s on modern MCs in my view.

Uploaded a small soundclip under my soundtesting. Filmed via a LG G5 mobilephone so it does not give the speakers descent justice :-) Just a hint how they sound.

Will try to make a better soundclip later with external microphone.

I'd like to (and will probably) try 'memory foam' in my 3154's, any opinions or experience with it?

1 -2" slabs are readilly sourced, question may be what density choice to make when there is one.

Hoping to get WT3 readings before/after of a few different tests, but held up it doesn't like Win10 even with the new 'DATS' program. meh.

No clue, just know that for foam it must be open cell or it will be mostly just a net volume reducer and that 'memory' foam can be either.

I just noticed this thread. Great job building these 620's! What are you using for h.f. drivers?
