    Model 18's on Ebay

You don't see these for sale very often these days--even rarer than seeing 17's for sale--and those are hard to come by nowadays too. Seller mentions new "factory" cones and frams. Hopefully he means GPA--I'd ask to make sure if I was the buyer. Too bad there are no hi res photos...

I emailed the seller to ask about how the drivers were rebuilt. I got an email back from the seller's wife saying her husband passed away very unexpectedly just after placing the ad. Man thats sad!

Anyone looking at this pair of speakers now should know that the profits are going to benefit a widow. She said her late husband only used the best parts but she was unsure about if they were rebuilt at GPA.

If she wants to make it easier to sell these at anywhere near her asking price, it would help her to take a photo of the cone number on the back of a woofer (or both woofers). Then it would be easy to verify if it's a GPA part (or, much more unlikely, NOS Altec parts/cones). Verifying either of those possibilities would make a big difference to most informed buyers. If you want to help her you might suggest that.....

Thats a good idea Vott. I will suggest that to her. I'm sure she now has a bunch of other gear to go through also. I wish I was closer to help. She is in Boones Mill, VA

I hope he had an audiophile friend that was his gear "beneficiary". I have it all setup with my wife that if something were to happen to me, my uncle would come and help her sort through my gear. While I am of the younger audiophile generation, my uncle was around building Dynaco tube amp kits when they first came out

    Wow those are nice!

The trim on those boxes is a nice touch. Haven't seen that before.

I would not mind having the Cary mono amps or pre-amp either.

I would bet a paycheck that those are GPA replacements. The guy was obviously serious about his rig and you can't buy 604 cones at Wall-Mart.

No, but you can on ebay, even early style cones.

I have even seen new cones with the correct Altec cone numbers. I'm pretty sure they are not original Altec though

Am I correct in saying that the trim on the cabs is the only difference between the Model 17 and the 18?
