I think these are fairly uncommon, and have the model 2000 tweeter that has no surround.

The color is all wrong on these, i don't know if they were sprayed or if the aluminum dome was anodized like 413 domes were. But, you'll get the idea. I think somebody sprayed them and greatly de-valued them by doing so.
It's my WAG that 2000A's with the bright aluminum dome are very much in the RARE category, and were the earliest examples. I'm pretty sure the gold color is all Altec, and was done to render them invisible behind gold tone grill fabric, much the same as they did by painting horns gold. These 835's are early and IMO a solid collectible Altec. The price isn't a steal, but i think it barely covers the value of those tweeters, IMO.
2000B, 2000B has a capacitor in it's magnet housing:
This cone is whacked, never saw one like it before, and i don't think it's right. IMO, it's somebody's re-cone with totally non-Altec parts. There shouldn't be a surround of any kind. Altec coined a term for it(the suspension)

Hey cool. So those are the same kind of "tweeters" as a 755 then. They are 6" or 8" right?
You mentioned the cap under the magnet cover. Do they have a little coaxial driver also or is the cap for the driver itself?
So I was imagining the "surroundless" driver as something similar to this. Does it just have a stiff spider?

Something new almost every day from you guys! I had no idea that the Altec 2000 "tweeter" even existed. And no suspension? What was the idea? I assume that it was housed in it's own sub-enclosure?

It seems like Altec had a fancier name for the scheme, but "gap suspension" is all i can come up with at the moment.

They are fairly uncommon, and i honestly don't know that much about them. I think there are probably quite a few "Altec people" that don;t know about them. I don;t think they are going to bring about any miracle sonic revelations. But, i think they are historically relevant, and no truly complete Altec collection should be without an example. Remember, Altec didn;t make very many tweeters, period.
It stands to reason for me at least, that they would have to be in their own sub-enclosure to prevent unwanted modulation of the cone, and certainly the free space around it would raise all manner of havoc for any woofer tuning.

The Monterey Jr. has been mentioned on the board before, as I have a pair. I haven't had them hooked up for quite some time, However.

I picked these up today. Was able to talk him down a little and could not resist grabbing them. I will likely drive these with a little pair of HK 6BQ5 integrated monoblocks that are rated at 10 watts each. I have been unable to find any significant info on these other than that which was in Altec literature. Does anyone know the dB sensitivity rating on these?

Here is a shot of them with the HK integrateds. I would love to know the efficiency of these. Seems to be typical Altec response to low powered tube gear...sweet sounding.
