Altec 602a Reconning?
I recently purchased a altec 602a on craigslist for $30 with a torn woofer. Tweeter works great.
I ordered a new cone from the only place I could find one, from queensland speaker repair (Its not letting me post the link)
Now I just received it. My question is, how can I safely remove the old cone?
I unscrewed the part around the gasket, and with that I can remove the top of the cone, but how should I safely do it around the spider and the horn tweeter?
Is there any way to remove the tweeter?
Also, any suggestions on what to do with one 602a?

Like to say welcome to the Altec board... Did you try to call Bill at GPA ? Great Plains Audio is the only place still manufacturing Altec parts...
You can't post links yet until you have a certain number of posts since you are a new member... That will change very soon however and again welcome to the board.

Looks like a nice job, how about a write up on how you did it? It adds to the knowledge base here.
Congrats and thanks!

Honestly I just kinda made it up as I went along. I ordered a set of glue for reconeing, and the cone.
Tore off the old one ruthlessly, tore off the old spider and voice coil.
Sanded away all excess gunk.
Glued new spider to new voice coil, glued new cone to new voice coil, put holes in cone with sharp pencil to let wires from voice coil and tweeter though, soldered those.
Glued spider to frame, glued cone to frame, then quickly screwed down the cone ring thing to hold it in place, glued felt dust cap thing.
Treated the surround with the glue stuff, and that's it.
Took a few hours, but got it all done in one day.
Not too bad.
