Old listing. A longshot but worth contacting the seller.

Ooh........wish I'd seen these.......the good Altecs got either so expensive or scarce around here for so long I quit looking.

    So be it.

(However, I am not seeking to buy any new gear thus don't look at the Marketplace, so would have missed this request and not have provided a useful lead).

I heard 2 pairs of these stacked with one set of horns turned off, actively crossed. Nice big open sound and more forgiving then my M19'S, very pleasant to listen too, on the warm side the way they were eqed. Bass sounded very different then the m 19's and didn't image like M19's. Great speakers! Good luck with your search!

Re: WTB Altec-Lansing M500 Maestro Speakers

I picked up the M500 Maestros on Saturday. Thanks again mah! They are in for restoration this week.

The plan for these is to build what we (North Georgia Audio Society) believes would have been the replacement for the Model 19. We're calling it the Model 19-MR3 (Where "MR" is Manataray, and the "3" is three-way. For high frequency we'll be using the Eminence ASD1001 driver and testing it with the Eminence APT 150S horn (a Mantaray clone). Everything will be tri-amped using a dbx DriveRack PA2.

It will be fun to build and interesting to see how well it works. Has anyone tried anything like this before?

    GM,

Since you live in the Atlanta area you're welcome to come the next NGAS meeting and listen to the M500's. Just send your contact info to NGAS through the website Contact - Audiophile Nirvana, or you can private message it to me through the Altec board.

Will you be sticking with the 416 family for the woofer? Would also love to see how the Eminence would compare with the GPA 902 family of drivers

    Thanks for the great work.

No, we'll be using the Altec 3154 woofer.

The Eminence really isn't comparable to the Altec 902 or 909, it's more of a high frequency driver (nothing below 2.5 kHz).
