Wow, for a limited production driver it would cost a small fortune to have the die cast molds made for the frames. To produce, what, maybe a few thousand units?
Makes me think they were purchasing parts from Altec. I'd love to know the full story behind this company.

I think the Japanese just wanted to copy something successful. I would bet cash no connection to Altec whatsoever.

One is "genuine" the other is "original".
    Weidemann was substantially cheaper.

mmm. real or otherwise, the frame's a dead ringer compared to pics of my Ling era (black paint) 416-8A's... but the magnet is bigger (overhangs) on the jack-a-hoo-hah.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Edit: Here is the biggest standout for me.
If this company had licensed Altec technology, why would they pay a sizable chunk of money and not mention it? They would be bragging about it.

Conclusion- they just did as much cosmetic resemblance as they could get away with.

Why no info on the company? It probably was a shell company put together by Onkyo in case Altec sued. It likely existed only on paper.
If they sound good, keep them. But they ain't and never will be Altecs.

You are applying American standards to the Orient. Labor was cheap in Japan at the time. That's how they undercut and killed the American manufacturers.
