Bowtie always has the good info!
I miss spoke, they were 416-8Z.
The ohmmeter photos were 6.9 and 7.3 ohms.

16" frames with the welded magnet and no cover.
Ad stated they came from 846-B's.

They sold for $398. But hard to say what the buyers top bid limit really was.

I don't know much about the automatic bidding thing.

    Just a short follow up.

I should measure the TS parameters in my re-coned C's and see where they fall.
That would tell me if the cabinet alignment (port size) is correct.
And I can sweep mine in the boxes and see where the port is tuned.

Although if it needs adjusting, what to do right? I would not want to change the looks of these classic speakers.

416-8Z's are correct for the 846-B's. I purchased 846-A's new back in the day and they came with 416-16Z's a better match for tube amps, however, when the 846-B's came out they changed impedance to 8 ohms for a better match for the solid state amp market. Rear magnet cover was absent from both models as a cost savings as they are only cosmetic and not seen with a factory produced speaker system.

Ron, thanks for selling me the original pair of 416B's that you had. They're in a pair of Model 19's that I built and I've enjoyed much.

I saw a pair of 416Z on craigslist up in Seattle that might work for you?

    Don't think so, looks a lot like a mediocre Waldom lash-up .

I was watching that auction, too. And wondering - can a pair of nice 416s really go for $250? (Even though the one on the right had a very minor hole in the surround.) Surely not. Like a number of you guys, I watch the Altec ebay gear religiously, and it seems that no nice set of 416s go for less than $400. If it had happened, I was sure to kick myself for not bidding!

Your rights, shouldn't the dust caps have a hole in them. Didn't quite see that.

Good to hear from you Matt. Glad you put my 8B's to good use!
Now that you have broken them in, give them back! Ha!
Seriously, glad they went to a forum member.

    Around 35Hz IIRC.

Well, if it needs a higher tuning, then the port must either be bigger or the cab's net volume [Vb] must be reduced; lower just reduce the port opening and if you want to lower it a lot [like down to Fs], then make a rectangular duct of 'x' length with a small flange to slide it into the port with a little gasket or similar to seal it.

I was thinking the same on the method to possibly tune them lower GM.
Thanks. I'll measure them as is and let you guys know in another post.

My ears tell me they are a tad boomy and don't go as low as I "think" they should.

Of course the subs fix the low end. But this is just something I will enjoy investigating.

I should probably measure the output impedance of my tube amps as well.
