Welcome, #71 Orange One!
I'd love to hear the story of how you found these.
Boy, are you at the right place. You have entered into the abode of the true Altec gurus. And they are all waiting with baited breath to start exploring model numbers, date codes, crossover configurations - and then to the really good stuff: incorporating all the up-to-the-moment crossover mods that can make those Magnificents worthy of the name. (Actually, that's just me doing all the baited breath stuff and looking forward to learning more from the experts here.)
Welcome. You're coming in with a big bang, indeed!

Enjoying Altec Speakers since 1972
Yeah, we would like to see some model numbers. Yes, you stole them! Probably no worries about the start up. Like said, check the wiring for correct and unoxidized connection, hook up and go.
Welcome to the world of BIG sound!
Been reading up on crossovers as my first possible thing to play with.
As far as how I found them, they showed up on nextdoor classifieds. As vott in rosewood and this photo... IMG_9542.JPG

While the speakers are beautiful, those grills could use a little - uh - imagination? But that's jumping the gun by a wide margin. The aesthetics will come later.
This is going to be fun. Wait 'till we get to the part about rewiring your crossover with #00 welding cable!

Hi Orange-
Well, it's not the color that I was referring to - it's just acres and acres of it unbroken by any contrast or accent. (My wife would laugh out loud right now thinking about me suggesting anything concerning aesthetics, of all things!)

I second the two piece grill. Someone posted a pic of some Valencias over at Audiokarma with two piece grills. I think horns are sexy. Especially green horns.
If those speakers were mine I would flip them over and put the horns on the top. Like some proper A7's.
I think the woofers sound better up off the floor and closer to ear height
