Re: The "rather Common cut frame" 515s

I sent a message asking about whats common about destroying the frames on an expensive woofer and this was his reply.

"This was a common - albeit sad "fix" that ALTEC field service personnel and independent contractors performed, permitting retrofit of a 16" frame woofer into pre 1973 210 and 211 cabinets that only allowed space for 15"s. They remain rigid - and functional. You should see some of the other jobs Ive seen in my years as a commercial audio contractor and ALTEC dealer! In fact, there is one such 515E woofer currently listed - with one entire side of the frame cut away."

My guess is that it was common for "him" to do it. What ever happened to rebuilding the existing woofers or keeping a few rebuilt units in stock for emergency's. I can just see this idiot with a hacksaw on the job site.

I think he said he had hundreds of them. guess no one figured it out before they cut all of them.

He did say he had a bunch of them.

but, just checking the photos from the two listings. they show the same serial #s, although he might have recycled the pics.

I bet the first buyer was either fake or realized he was a dumbass and backed out.

A clean, not hacked pair of 515E just sold for 209.50$. Thats a good deal

Re: The "rather Common cut frame" 515s

The second pair just sold for 525.00! Am I missing something here? Can these be reframed and reconed and come in below market value? Are people missing the fact that parts of the frame have been hack sawed off?
    I really don't get it.
