If they are for real, what were they used on:

Are those badges based on any real ones, or totally fiction?
The first time I saw these in the Altec catalog a couple of years ago, I remember thinking how great they would look cast in brass with black letters. Wish one of the reproducers would do just that. They look quite nice.

Thanks for posting Earl K.
Not only does this verify that they didn't come on genuine Altec enclosures, but it also explains why the few times i've seen them in the past they were on obvious DIY/non-Altec enclosures as well as why they were not trademarked.
Reminds me of one of my favorite gear stores from years ago. Up front by the check-out counter they had a wooden barrel full to the brim with big white Marshall logos. To this day one off DIY hack jobs pop up on the Binghamton CL now and then, being passed off as some rare custom model or a very desirable prototype Marshall guitar speaker.

Very cool. Thanks for the info guys
Previous to this you could buy regular Altec badges.
Your neighbors called. They like your music.
It was a cool thing for Altec to do, and a reminder of a spirit of individualism and innovation that seems totally lost in our current consumer culture. In this case, a major company was complicit in encouraging and guiding individuals to use its products in the construction of individual and personal creations - and then being willing to attach its own name to the final result!
