Altec 604E in 612 cabinets
Hi there!
Hevent?s been here for years.
I used two 604E chassis in a stage-version of 620 cabinets for 6 or 8 years now. There are somewhat bigger than the 620 and feature a suprisingly big
rectangular port.
Now i detaches the chassis and want to put them into 621 cabinets - i like the optics of them very much and they?re remarkably smaller.
But i?m not really sure whether the 612 is a good match for the "E" type 604 and the N1500A XO. I also have active XOs from EV - they?re
an original Altec-Design - featuring adjustable phase compensation for the 13cm distance between LMF and HF coil, a LF-gain and also a horn-EQ -
option. Which i don?t intend to use.
Do you think the 612 cabinet might be too small for the 604E? Could an active bass-equalization help?
best regards, Klaus

I run 604G drivers in some home built 612 cabs. I use Markwart 1500hz xovers. Bass is decent but I usually run the bass control on my preamp one notch up from neutral.
I am not sure how close your 604e's would be in the same cabs. I think pretty close to the results I am getting.
I am switching to 620 cabs soon to get a little better bass extension. I run my A7 cabs with subwoofers but not my 604's.

The 612 is a good studio monitor for small rooms..But the 604 will benefit from a somewhat little larger cabinet for more low end extension.
