Doug Sax is in there, too.

Recently, I have been looking into the history of Pink Floyd's mastering and remastering on their releases/reissues, DSOTM in particular, and these are the guys who are right in it.

The article reveals how rare the Big Reds and other Altec spin-offs could be.

MAH, Thanks for posting this article. The best part of it for me is the last page (in color) of the Urie monitors. I wish that I had it in a poster, no better yet the real speakers built into my wall. I'm sure that it is just a handful of recording engineers that got to do there mixdowns on these pinnacle of audio devices. And the kids nowdays have what???? 8 t's and tweeters....(Oh and I saved the pdf)

    Re: The Venerable 604

Louder, I was very pleased to stumble across the Venerable 604 article. The magazine is pretty good, too.

FWIW, Take a copy of the page .pdf file to a print shop to ask what they can do with it. I enlarged it quite a bit on my 24inch graphics monitor using the '+' button on the page and the image was surprisingly clear up to 21 inches across the top. A print shop can use sophisticated image sharpening tools and manipulate colour, contrast, brightness, etc. and get a good print at probably 24 inches across. The larger white text in the photo is in soft focus and fools the eye into believing the poster is not sharp when in fact it is where intended to be..

Use the blue print to monitor sharpness as you enlarge it because it is the most consistently sharp part of the image.

    Cheers, Marshall.

    Re: The Venerable 604

Mah thanks for the great read. I recently picked up a set of UREI 813 with the 838A crossover... even though I absolutely was NOT bowled over by them ( the price was right) I feel a little better now knowing it's one of the better 604-8g Implementations. Any ideas to improve them ? Other than a crossover recap?

I would try biamping them. I bet a couple high power SS amps would really open them up. Maybe even triamp them. You could cross the helper woofers over a little lower

I know I love my Urei 604g's in Altec 620 cabs.
