The grist of the 'Direct Heating' site, would be that,

This man built ampifiers, acording to teachers,

    in electronic schools.

    Then he listened to them.

And he did not like what he heard.

After researching, he builds amps the way he does now.

So you and he are alike, in certain regards.

Note that he has Altec speakers as well.

Please keep it at a reasonable price so everyone can afford it. I can't wait till all the old used amps hit Craigslist after they buy yours.
Might be time to upgrade to a set of MC75's.

I know enough.... that I wouldn't even own or build a 300B amp Bill.

I've only built amps for myself, a pastor, and my friend Greg who GAVE me his 515Bs, 802Ds and 511s. This year, I am privately helping a few others DIY build amps.

I will leave the 300B use - to the masses. Here is why .......

The 2.5 Volt filament of a 2A3 will allow one to beneficially use A.C. heating, which always sounds better than any 5 Volt D.C. operated filament, required with a 300B.

See Bill,..... you live and learn !!

If you run a Mc Intosh, never a MC75, do the MC60 monos,... best sounding of that bunch IMHO. .

But Bill, never use any of them on ALTEC speakers. Here is why :

    ** too many stages,

** too many dynamics-robbing series coupling caps,

    ** negative feedback loops,

** and the need to split the signal's phase and recombine the signal.

ALL these factor as unnecessary circuit complexity.

This complexity degrades its overall performance potential severely, as to what is best possible in 2017, to power Altecs.

I have told you this a couple times before. Did it not sink in, or make sense to you ??

You need to get out some, and simply listen to a good, no....whoops, ( they are not good enough ) the best, tube amp for ALTECS..

    Good spelling, 'yer last post.

WTF? Good spelling in my last post? WTF????

I forgot, you like 2A3 tubes, the world is waiting for your production amp that will blow away all other amps.
As far as my Mac monoblocks go paired with my Altec's, they are the best sound system that my independent panel has ever heard. Yes, both the mailman and the drunk wino across the street both agree on that.
I'm not sure what your amp sounds like, but my MC40's are pretty much a straight wire with gain, as they are supposed to be. Very low distortion and a very flat frequency response. Look up the specs. I'm guessing you need coloration in your amps, I'm not looking for any of that.
Lets see some test results. Ooops, that would require test gear that neither you or your mentor own.

Jeff, I'm very tired of being insulted and badgered by you. Why this forum tolerates your constant abuse baffles me.

    Baloney Bill.

Clearly showing you the design flaws, as to why a circuit will be sub-optimal on ALTEC speakers, not the best possible thing to use, is not meant to be insulting or badgering YOU. The Mc amp is what it is, too complex and unnecessary, .... easily bettered.

You and I could turn that cheap Chinese BEZ amp into something that EASILY exceeds a McIntosh tube amp. Your in-hand cheap BEZ has the correct VAC power transformer, output transformers, and tube sockets to do so. I have offered to assist, privately, for free, several times. You refuse to even acknowledge my offers. !!

    Quit yer moaning .

I turned the other cheek, and I was willing to help you, one-on-one, with a superb DIY solution.

When I visit family in upstate NY, I always pick up a gallon of real maple syrup. I love the stuff. My FIL in FL, prefers the cheap syrup from Walmart. Is he wrong because he doesn't have the same opinion as me?

I bet your FIL is not ranting on a Honey-Lovers forum, every day, telling them that they have got it wrong.

LowOhms (aka Jeff) has been dealt with...

If I did it correctly, Mr. Medwin should now be banned.

I apologize for his behavior - he repeatedly promised me privately that he would behave, and one wants to be as understanding as possible, but enough was enough.

Now let's get back to normal.....
