Somewhere out there is a video with one of the pilots recounting the "fun" they used have by radioing ATC for speed and altitude checks when they were flying over the states.
I'm jealous, have flown a T33 but it's a toy compared to this...
Your neighbors called. They like your music.

That is absolutely my favorite ride in the world. Has a very limited membership. Habu I think the pilots were called. Just an amazing piece of technology. They get to cruise on the edge of space and can go from day to night at will.
Those guys would fly over the USSR and watch missiles streaking towards them only to fall back to earth.
I'm sure we have jets that are faster today but nothing will ever approach the sinister look of the SR71.
That video made my day. Thanks.

Well Old Guy, I think you have us all beat. And to think, they paid you to do that!

Airplanes are awesome.
So cool you flew one OG.
I live only 9 miles form Whiteman AFB, in Missouri, where USA's B2 " Stealth " Northrup flying-wing long-range bombers are located. What a thrill, to be near the flight path, as they do take offs, engines thundering !! Graceful beasts in the air.

Too many unique qualities brought it's demise.
uses fuel unique to itself, a very high base kerosene
uses a unique catalyst, tri-ethyl borane which clearly identifies to anyone in the know where the aircraft will generally be deployed as it does not fly without a string of support tankers at the ready
depending on speed and air density the normal operating temperature of the aircraft's external skin ranges from 400 to 600 degrees F, when it's cold and standing on the tarmac, it leaks fuel as a result of the expansion tolerances built in
each engine used an AG-330 start cart equipped with a buick wildcat V-8 engine(replaced with big block chevy in the 70's) used to spin the turbines up to start speed.
here's an audio clip:
