Nothing Altec Lansing about them ! At this point it is just a name and name only !
If you remember their real name you'll understand where we go next with regard to research and Bluetooth speaker development...

Loud is Beautiful if it's Clean! As always though, the usual disclaimers apply to this post's contents.
Some of their new bluetooth speakers use the old model numbers like 802,515, and 604. They show up in my ebay searches.
I feel sorry for the youth of today. Unless you have a goofy old uncle (like us), you only know music through earbuds, likely streaming through your mobile device. The current Altec stuff is probably a step up over that, but is hardly comparable to the speakers of old. Miniaturized is almost always not as good as real - it is only smaller (like the experience)......

Hopefully there will be some of the next generation that will appreciate Altec gear. I am 33, and love listening to my Altec speakers with my kids. I also like teaching them about the different parts and what they do.
I do enjoy listening to a bluetooth speaker (JBL Flip) at work. It's perfect for a small, portable stereo. It's sad though, that to many people, a little bluetooth speaker replaces what would have been a real HiFi system 40 years ago
There is an easy way to change this.

Opinion is only as valid as its verifiable supporting evidence.
Okay, I agree that it's not the Altec that we grew up with. But it's the 21st century and everything is changing and you have to change with it. What if we could buy the amp module out of the Lightning and hook it up to a A-7 ? No wires ! Look at the back of that thing. You can probably hook up just about anything. And in another year or two there will probably be dsp and everything that's being offered on some of the top of the line behringers. All for a fraction of the cost and a quarter of the weight. (oh and the Lightning has a 15" speaker and a horn loaded h.f.) Just saying. Granted it's not a 515 and 288 but will the amp module work with those two?????
Things move along. That's life. We enjoy a piece of the past with access to old products that survive because of durability and large numbers originally sold - and, fortuitously, GPA being there to service the commercial market for parts support(we benefit but aren't so significant business-wise).
Enjoy your Altecs. Stock up on diaphrams.
