    Date Code

    Can somebody please refrench my memory on the ALTEC date code ? 391449 serial number 0978 and 0980 0n two 9844 monitors.

    391=Altec
    4 = year [one has to speculate the decade]
    49 = week

    4 = year [one has to speculate the decade]
    Pre- 1970 it would be a model 844 with gold painted curved spoke 414's, and a green 811.

    Post 1980 9844 will have 414-16E ferrites, and a ferrite 902HF.

    Thank you GM and Bowtie. I haven't worked out the deal, nor taken the backs off. I'm hoping my date code works out to '74 with the low serial number. And am hoping for the cast magnet structures. I'll repost once I get possesion.

    You're welcome! Good luck with that, by '74; cost cutting, questionable QA had reached the point where I ~gave up on them by '75 and only ordered woofers afterwards as customs, referencing a date code to build by and thankfully they delivered and was rather surprised that they didn't charge a premium for them! Another thing was that no matter how bad things got, the HF component's quality never wavered IME.
