I wonder how they decided on a 415 recone for that. And what happened to the horn? Lol

The horn on a 603b is a silly thing. It supposedly horn loads the overtones from the aluminum dust cap. How well does it work? Not very.

It likely sounds better this way, but sill not correct. The biflex is supposed to have an aluminum cap.

I'm reminded of Monty Python by that line. :-)

I don't think the 415 had an aluminum cap. I just sold a 415 and I think it had remnants of a paper cap left..... cone was destroyed.

Surely the early 412's and 415's had paper dust caps. But, it wouldn't surprise me if later ones had aluminum. There were some changes during 415 production. Early ones had gray krinkle paint, and split rims. Late ones had one piece baskets, and a tin pan magnet cover and were painted classic Altec green.

I had the later design, that you describe.

You are correct. I was thinking 420 biflex which does.

Interesting. Obviously reconed with an Alex Badmaieff style Biflex cone kit, which might actually sound better than the original 603 kit. The 603 IMO was basically a cosmetic exercise, a poor man's 604 - looking thing with a horn distributing the feeble highs of an aluminum dust cap.
