FWIW, I'll continue to direct people to contact GPA ( for those seeking to repair their Altecs ).

I somewhat doubt that I'll provide the same direction when others are looking to buy new ( since I no longer see the value ).

    My Opinion:
GPA has now put themselves into a price bracket ( the over $1000.US per item ) that's occupied by a few esoteric manufacturers, some of which have much better resale value ( ie; see TAD ).

Radian ( now the poor mans TAD's since they offer Beryllium diaphragmed compression drivers in 3 different sizes ) are in the less than $1000.00US range.

TAD & Radian will ultimately put the squeeze on GPA's aspirations ( IMHO ) for those who want the cleanest top-end available.

Then there's JBL; as a company they have always found a way to shoot an arrow straight through the heart of Altec's ambitions ( & I don't see any chance of this changing due to GPA's adoption of "surge-pricing" ).

Here's one of JBLs' current SOTA woofers, offered for a mere $ 600.00.

Bummer, every time I've seen a confirmed price for components, repairs, they are ~spot on with cumulative inflation over time to the few published price sheets I've seen on-line and/or from my surviving invoices, though ignoring AlNiCo components no clue if this is a fair comparison due to differing economies of scale.

For sure, any pricing higher than current JBL, Faital or similar components makes them strictly for the serious collector, especially since in an increasing number of cases the modern components are a better performance value overall.

This is where i would point out the time line of MicroMike Labs and Bill Hayes for contemplation.

The natives used to have a saying. The literal translation is "only the rocks are forever".

It all begs the question how much longer could Bill continue to independently sail his ship as he has in the past?

There comes a point in every man's life where he must begin to lighten his burden if he is to complete the journey on his own terms.
