the good news,,,,
it's cheaper to recone than replace.
in all senses of the word.
( read this in the voice of lemony snicket , narrator of 'a series of unfortunate events' . might help with empathy ?)
O.k so you can see from the meme i have created, to highlight my stupidity and lack of situational awareness, that i have made an ill advised technical modification to a once perfectly decent iconic model 704-8a.
I probably deserve to be publicly thrashed with bamboo canes by kendo masters rather than recieve any help. But for those that see fit , what would you do to dry the cone and hopefully help it regain its shape?
Wish id modge podged them prior to putting in storage. I am le sigh

Well , Bill from great plains says he can recone for $145.00
Not sure if this is a new price across the board for 604's or because mine is an iconic 704-8a but I'm happy enough with that.
Probably get both done so they're equally fresh in that case.
Phew.
I'm sure shipping both ways from UK and back will amount to several hundred dollars for each speaker. I doubt the OP really wants to do that, especially with both.
If you can install it yourself or have a competent speaker tech locally, you can source the correct kit(GPA35400) here for a reasonable price(100 bucks) while their supplies last. Altec 604C, 604D, 604E, 605B, 615B Recone Kit R604-16E - Speaker Exchange
it's a 604-8H with a different decal slapped on iticonic 704-8a

Not all vegetables make good leaders.
Find a COMPETENT speaker reconing shop in your area, order the parts from GPA (do NOT let the reconer supply it - who knows what they'd use!), and have them recone them. You may have to email Bill to get the correct parts kit.

If / when you speak to Bill, you might ask him if there is anyone in the UK he may recommend.
