SOMEWHERE I have a data sheet for those. As Bowtie says the coil is smaller, I think the Alnico slug is also. The are probably worth the price, though I'd prefer the 406C.

I think the cone profiles also differ with the 406a/b having more of a straight sided cone and the 406y/z having a more curvlinear cone profile.

All good to know, especially WRT vetting sales BS, but unfortunately doesn't get us any closer to an answer and in retrospect, short of OEM documented specs we may never know since too much time has elapsed for any point source driver to maintain its parameters 'close enough' unless used ~daily in a sealed box playing a wide range of music.
