    The result so far:

    Enter: Voice of the Futon [Dehorning the Altec 828] - diyAudio

    The 'slot loading' of the baffle makes more sense with pics. :-)

    So they are a fun starting point which could be further modified, including doubling the volume by sistering on the 2 others I've yet to gut.
    Will post MKII (better pics) sometimes soon.

    Hmm, totally forgot about about simming it.

    It's not slot loaded, the cutout has the same cross sectional area [CSA] as it's effective piston area [Sd], so a 1:1 compression ratio [CR], though it will slightly impact directivity below ~13543/pi/8 = ~539 Hz.

    why not just make a new pair of boxes?

    Reduce reuse recycle... and I'm not really setup well to make new boxes. My carpentry tools and skills are best kept to the inside where they can't be seen.

    If we land on a real winner, I'd consider commissioning them someday from somebody competent/capable/professional.
