    W bins

Hi, anyone using W bins here, with dual woofers in either speaker? What's your configuration?

    Thanks.

I have built and used a few different W type horns over the years.

IMNSHO&E the best by far was the Electrovoice TL-4025 stacked in pairs or quads. Moving and storing them gets old real fast.

If i were inspired to do another large format woofer cabinet build, i'd be looking at a bent horn very similar to EAW BH822. Dual 12 inch drivers, 146db with an F3 of 24hz, they'll shake your pant legs a hundred yards away.

    Re: W bins

In the 70's we considered Shearer horns, but moving them was even more problematic than the EV's Bowtie mentioned. I remembered Altec had made a half height version of the Shearer. With a little tweaking you can put in a Just Big and Loud 18". The result was a cabinet that took quite a bit of power (we used a Phase linear 400 channel on each).

Clair Brothers did something similar, but with the full height Shearer and double 18. They had more trained Orangutans than I did.
W bins really turn the trick outside, where you have no room gain.
The best home W-bin I ever found was by Simplex. Looks like the design was influenced by the Shearer but the mouth is much smaller. Has an extra fold over the Shearer and reaches a little deeper. Corner placement makes them deadly.
