Clintwood maintained a solid lead for the entire first half. I believe they were up by 11 at one point and 5 or 6 at halftime. Eventually the press wore us down in the second half causing us 20+ turnovers. Castlewood is very fundamentally sound but far from impressive.

| http://www.tricities.com/tri/sports/high...overcome/18162/ Published: December 30, 2008 BY ANTHONY STEVENS SPORTS CORRESPONDENT CLINTWOOD, Va. – Undefeated Castlewood advanced to the title game of the Greenwave Classic basketball tournament Monday night at Howard Deel Gymnasium with a 56-52 win over Clintwood. The Blue Devils overcame a terrible start in the first quarter when they only scored four points, while committing 11 turnovers. Castlewood went almost four minutes at the start of the game without scoring. “The first quarter was horrible,” Castlewood coach Wayne Rasnick said. “But like I’ve said before this bunch is resilient, they come back.” Castlewood settled down and started playing better in the second quarter. They had trouble with Clintwood’s Heath Counts who did a great job posting up inside. “I think my bunch has to learn that they can play with people,” Clintwood coach David Vanover said. “A lot of times we’re satisfied to just stay even. Once we realize we can play with anybody, we’ll capitalize on situations like that.” In the second half, Castlewood looked like a different team. It shot 67 percent from the floor and didn’t commit a turnover in the third quarter. Ryan Meade finished with 14 points, seven assists and six steals. Counts had 20 points for the Greenwave. Castlewood fairly easily over Tazewell for the championship. Clintwood over Haysi by ten for third place. Told ya'll Castlewood would win it. And, Clintwood doesn't suck like the pre-season polls predicted they would.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Told ya'll Castlewood would win it. </div></div> I was truly surprised that Tazewell did not make a better showing. That just shows how much Clintwood has improved. Castlewood is a heck of a ball team and Clintwood really should have beaten them.
