Well. they're bound to happen, especially when first tinkering with formulae...
Trouble is, most rocket-fuel formula has to be suppressed & inhibited. If it's "too good", it blows up. But if it's inhibited too much, it'll just "chuff" and not get off the pad. Just takes some tweaking....
Also wish the kid behind the camera wan't so impressed with...

Fired two EX rockets today that I blended & mixed at home.
Below is my report on todays NERRF get-together.
(Oh; "NorthEast Regional Rocket Fest" = "NERRF") It was friggin BIG.

Cool beans! Sat was so awesome, I'll try getting up early to drive back up Sunday too!

Last Sunday, June 7th, tried launching my first homebrewed basement mix of propellant.
After autopsy of the pieces, am not 100% sure what the problem was, but believe it might have been either pushing the igniter ALL the way to the top of the fuel grains (which you do in Aerotech motors, but not in LOKI motors). Or possibly using too much tape to hold the igniter in, causing over-pressurization....

Next launchday, coming-up in a few weeks, am finally gonna try an electronic deployment. The pic above is the avionics/electronics bay for a 3" dia rocket, of which I have a couple. There's an RRC2-mini altimiter inside. I have E-bays for 4" & 5.5" rockets also, and can swap-out the altimiter between them all.
Have to be careful with friction-fit of the airframe...

Finally got another shipment of chemicals in the mail. This time took, relatively, FOR-EVER!!
And it wasn't even for restricted ORM-D flammables & oxidizers either, but just for a few drums of synthetic rubber, binders & plasticizers! Sheesh! No wonder tires cost so much, the rubber takes MONTHS to ship from processing to manufacturing. Though technically, the type of synthetic rubber I'm using (R45M with an Isonate 143L cure agent) is basically only used by high-power rocketeers...
