Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
Has anyone been to some of the stores in the new Kingsport Pavilion shopping center? When I was over there a couple of weeks ago, Old Navy, Target, Kohls, and Shoe Carnival were already open. I'm not sure if [richard]'s Sporting Goods is already open.
From the news articles I've read, there should be some new restaurants going up near the shopping center too.
I think this center is definitely going to take a big chunk of business away from Fort Henry Mall.

What business? [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif[/img]
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
I went a couple of weeks ago, to Shoe Carnival (nice store - I recommend it), then killed a few minutes in Target. At that time D ick's Sporting Goods wasn't open, but the website says that it's open in Kingsport now. Store Locator Link
Seems like the K'town Target is just a smidge smaller than the Bristol Target. Or maybe it's the layout fooling me (they're flipped floor plans).
The new Highlands Shopping center in Bristol was enough to get me away from Fort Henry Mall. Has many of the stores I like, and VA sales tax.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
[richard]'s grand opening was Saturday.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
Honest to God it's to the point where I dont ever go to the tri-cities. Other than the Arby's tournament or PV scrimmaging TN High, I'm never there. I just cant justify the cost of traveling over there to shop, I just order online and save the gas.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
I went into Shoe Carnival and Target and liked both. The Target is laid out similar to some I've been to in the Atlanta area, but it may be a little smaller. I don't think this Target is a Super Target, but it seemed bigger to me than the JC Target.
Kohl's is a bit too pricey for me, and I'm way too old for the Old Navy style of clothes! LOL
I haven't been inside Fort Henry Mall in probably eight years, but everytime I drive by there, it looks as if JC Penny is doing good business.
I never thought there were ever be any retail around the old Hills / Montgomery Ward shopping center, but they turned that place around, and it was no time at all until new restaurants were popping up there.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
We go to Bristol once or twice a month now.
We'll take a cooler and head to Sam's Club, and we generally save about $50-$100 a trip on the exact same groceries & stuff we'd buy at the stores here. Gas is about $15 each round trip, so the grocery savings more than makes up for that. While we're there we hit Petsmart for dog food (not carried locally), and sometimes the other stores as time permits.
I can understand though not going there just to be going.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
I can understand going to Sams. I know a lot of people who drive ovre there just to eat and it blows my mind, sure I like Red Lobster/Texas Roadhouse/etc but I'm not going to spend 30 bux in gas when I could go eat at Renos/Mosbys/Applebees/etc.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
The bottom line is that unless you want Mexican, your choices in teh Wise/Norton area are [censored], [censored], or [censored].
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
Yeah I agree with you there's not any place to eat at over there worth the extra gas to make a special trip for.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
I know some guys up here who drove all the way over there last Friday to eat at the Olive Garden, and they were impressed because they sold some special type of beer???
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
Did they do anything else, or just drive to JC for food?
If I'm going to JC, I'm going to make a day of it. And then only once or twice a year. Back when gas was cheaper, I was over there 3 or 4 times a month visiting friends and [censored] like that.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
Drove to JC just for beer at Olive Garden. Were they already a bit under the influence when they made that decision lol?
I like Olive Garden quite a bit, but I need to multi-task the trip to make it worthwhile.
Darnit.. now I crave Olive Garden again. Thanks a lot! [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
I dont really know but I'm guessing just ate they left here at 7 and were back when I got back from the Appy/CW game.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
I don't go often, but I'll make a Saturday of it in the tricities. I used to go over the bars in JC when I was younger.
Now, if I go to the Arby's Classic this year, I'll probably just spend the night in Bristol rather than driving back and forth each day.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
I will say this...Kohl's is worth the drive.

Unless your vehicle is only getting less than 5 MPG then you would be going in the hole deep. It will cost less than $20 in gas and this is at 15 MPG which will be 100 miles for a 80 mile round trip to Bristol from Wise County. Good luck finding a room for less than $50-$60 a night, now I ain't the smartest person but I do believe $60 in gas is cheaper than $100-$150 for a hotel.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
Even going over there for multiple sessions wouldn't justify the expense of the seediest fleabag in Bristol.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
Not planning on staying in a motel/hotel. I have friends in Bristol to stay with. Beats the heck out of driving back and forth.
I am planning to be at Viking Hall each day for the tournament.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
That is completely different, $0 for a room is considerably cheaper than $60 in gas.
Re: Kingsport Pavilion shopping center
LOL No [censored]!
I drove back and forth last year for three days and ending up being at the tournament about 5-6 hrs each day anyway.

Dicks actually opened the week before their grand opening. I was in there on the 3rd and got some stuff.
