If my speedometer is off...

My speedometer is off. It reads a little fast (at least at 55+ mph, to my knowledge). Would this affect how many miles are racked up on the tripmeter or odometer? Anybody know?

Yes, it should. All of those are run by the same cable so that an error in one is replicated in all.

I'm going to assume with the infomation you have given you are running low profile tires that are of a smaller diameter then stock ( your running 55/50/45/40 series). The only way is to change to the proper size tires or have the speedo recalibrated for the tire size you now have. That's the best I can come up with since you haven't stated which model you have now, an SI or VTEC, since no S's came in Cypress Green Pearl as far as I know in '96-'97. More information would be helpful.

OK, tires can vary up to 1/4 of an inch, but I don't think that would make the difference that you are talking about. I would make sure that it's off before going in to have it fixed (I had it done on a car I have ('65 GTO) and it was $75, and that was years ago). Have a couple of people drive with you in their car for five miles to see how far off it is, then talk to the people that do that kind of thing for a living. I have a friend that had 195/55/14's on his car and it made a difference on miles he put on his car (it added miles he didn't drive), so it is possible.

I think the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) has something to do with the speedo also. If that is true than wouldn't you need to recalibrate that too?

Honestly I don't have a clue, but that VSS sensor is involved in that circuit somehow.

Yes Jason, the VSS gives the signal to the speedo and the Cruise Control. It pulses at 1,026 per minute at 60 mph. The voltage range is 0-12 volts for the signal. Maybe his speedo has a bad or going out resistor or something, I don't know they don't show anything on that part of it. The manual has two pages on the VSS, but nothing about reading faster, just not working is all and how to check it out. I can send Veris the two pages to be able to check it out for the right voltage if he wants (Veris you'll just need a volt meter to read the voltage). That would check out the wiring as to being the problem, also the VSS.
